Save Mac storage without deleting anything Introducing TwinFold: Open source Mac app that stores identical files once Every file stays exactly where it is and keeps working. It just stops taking up space twice. Free & Open sourced-

macOS has a feature called APFS clones. Twinfold finds files that are identical byte for byte and turns the extra copies into clones. If you edit one later, only that file gets its own copy again Twinfold comes with an MCP server, so you can ask Claude or Cursor "find what's duplicated in my projects and save it". It does a dry run first and asks before changing anything

I needed this badly Thanks!

Bro just saved the world, huge

Love this! Storing identical files once without moving or breaking anything is such a clean idea, and making it free and open source is a great touch. #OpenSource #macOS

Fire Crazy vdo

This is such a nice concept, instant star!

when twinfold swaps an extra copy for a clone, how do you carry over that file's own permissions, tags and creation date, since the clone comes out as a new file?

This looks great! Does it handle hard links or symlinks under the hood, or is it a different approach?

apfs clones for the extra copies is such a clean fix, copy on write means editing one later doesn't break the rest lol
