"This is not from Bangladesh." This is from Thane city in Mumbai, India. Boarding local trains feels like a war. Only the winners get in during the rush, while others have to wait for the next chance.

Thane Municipal Corporation and Thane City Police should declare work from home today. People are unable to reach their offices. Ghodbunder Road and all internal roads in Hiranandani, Bramhand, Kolshet, Dhokali, Balkum are jam packed. Huge traffic since last few days but today it’s even worse. Mangroves are living shields. They slow waves, reduce flooding, lock in carbon, and shelter marine life that feeds millions. From the Sundarbans to Bhitarkanika, from Pichavaram to Coringa, they protect coastlines and communities every day. A recent video shared by retired IFS officer Mohan Pargaien showed heavy rain and surging waves hitting mangroves head-on and stopping there. Nature is doing its job. Yet, even as climate risks grow, nearly 45,000 mangroves in Mumbai may be cut for a coastal road, with replanting promised elsewhere. But mangroves are not movable infrastructure. They grow slowly, in exact coastal conditions, and protect the land where they stand. Remove them, and the shield weakens. Protecting mangroves is not anti-development. It is basic safety. Because when the sea rises, concrete won’t stop it. Roots will. Credits : Mohan Pargaien IFS🇮🇳 #Mangroves #CoastalEcosystem #Mumbai [Mangrove Forest, Mangrove Conservation, Mumbai]
