Today, I signed Executive Order No 1 of 2026 titled; Executive Order on the Regulation of Associations, Groups and Organisations Offering Security and Allied Services in Oyo State. This Executive Order is designed to ensure that all groups involved in security-related activities operate within a clear legal and operational framework that supports peace, order and the rule of law. In my remarks, I stated that the security agencies are working round the clock to ensure the safe return of the children and teachers kidnapped in Oriire LGA.

I understand the argument behind this AI executive order. Having 50 different state rules for AI creates chaos, slows innovation, and makes it harder for smaller companies to compete. A single national framework could help the U.S. stay competitive globally, especially as China moves fast in this space. It can also stop one state from censoring the rest of the country. That said, it also makes me nervous. Centralizing this much power over AI means whoever controls Washington likely controls the rules. If a future left-wing administration got hold of this authority, it’s easy to imagine ideological mandates, speech control, or biased enforcement creeping in. With that being said, it’s likely a risk we need to take.
