The Samuel Leeds School has finally opened, with over 400 pupils already registered 🏫 This is not our first school building, but it is our first private school, offering financial literacy as well as core subjects. When I was at school, I was told I was stupid, and none of the teachers taught me anything about business or finance. Not only are we building schools that provide this education, but we are also working with the Ugandan government to improve the curriculums within state schools. Our next project will be a Centre of Excellence that provides online courses and remote training for not only the children but also the teachers. I have just pledged to the Ministry of Education that I would construct this building, volunteer my teaching time, and provide computers for the new centre. This has never been done before. Once this is proven to revolutionise the school curriculum and people see that the right education is the future of prosperity, I pray the UK will follow and allow me to offer my voluntary services to bring financial literacy across the country 🇬🇧

This morning, I conducted an unannounced inspection at Queens College, Yaba, Lagos, to assess its current infrastructure, leadership, and the welfare of the students. Upon my arrival at 7:45 AM, I was pleased to see the majority of students lining up for assembly, with both the academic and non-academic staff, including the principal, already present and ready to begin the school day. During my visit, I held separate discussions with students, teachers, and the principal to better understand their challenges and needs. It is clear that the school requires significant infrastructural improvements to adequately and safely accommodate its students and staff. Queens College, established almost 100 years ago, has long surpassed its original capacity. To ensure that our students benefit from an appropriate student-to-teacher ratio, sufficient resources, and adequate facilities for boarding and feeding, we must maintain a standard capacity across all Unity Schools and Federal Government Colleges. In line with our commitment to promoting quality assurance in education, the Federal Ministry of Education will collaborate with Principal Obabori and the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) to redesign, refurbish, and build new facilities at Queens College, including a library, dining areas, hostels, and classrooms. Over the next several months, I will be conducting unannounced visits to other Unity Schools and Federal Colleges. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s mission for the education sector is simple: to provide better education for all. This is the goal that the Ministry and I are dedicated to achieving. 🚨BREAKING: Lake Stevens School District addresses altercations at anti-ICE walkouts, Lake Stevens Police investigate The Lake Stevens School District today released a statement on altercations that arose during student-led walkouts against ICE activity. The District in its statement “recognize and value students’ First Amendment rights and respect their ability to engage in lawful, peaceful expression” and very clearing stated that “bullying, harassment, hate, or violence in any form” will not be condoned. The Lake Stevens Police Department (LSPD) is now investigating, in accordance with district policy, incidents of “a small number of students engaged in behavior” that did not meet the District’s “expectations for safety and respect.” Over 100 students from Lake Stevens High School walked out of school on Feb. 5. Among the tensions, a fight broke out during the Feb. 5 walkout at Lundeen Park, where an 18-year-old student suffered a scratch to his face and broken glasses after attempting to stop anti-ICE student protesters from throwing water bottles at passing cars. On Feb. 6, over 100 students from Cavelero Mid High School and Lake Stevens Middle School walked out of school to protest against ICE. A vehicle, at an overrun crosswalk with protesters near 91st Avenue East and Market Place, struck one student who did not require medical attention. The District is encouraging students who experienced or are experiencing harassment or retaliation for their views to report it to a trusted adult for it to be “promptly” address. When the District became aware of plans for the walkouts, administrators focused on campus safety, continued instruction for students who remained in class, communicated with families, and coordinated with LSPD to support safety in the surrounding area. Students who left campus without authorization were marked absent in accordance with established procedures, and caregivers are notified. “We remain committed to supporting our students, listening to concerns, and working together as a community,” The District wrote. “Our shared focus must continue to be the well-being, growth, and education of every child we serve.” The Lake Stevens School Board meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. today, February 11, at the Education Service Center, 12309 22nd Street NE, in Lake Stevens. Written community comments will be accepted before 4:00 p.m. today, or community members can deliver comments in person during the meeting. Palo Alto High students given Qurans, encouraged to wear hijabs on mosque trip — parents sue Parents of Palo Alto High School students are suing the school district after a class field trip to a mosque last fall. The lawsuit claims female students were encouraged to wear hijabs, students were handed Qurans, and the visit framed Islam as aligned with social justice work. The trip was part of the school’s Social Justice Pathway program. Photos of the students were allegedly taken and posted online without parental consent. The plaintiffs include Jewish, Hindu, and Zoroastrian parents who say the activity crossed the line from education into religious promotion. Zahra Billoo, executive director of CAIR’s Bay Area office, spoke to the students during the visit. She later called the lawsuit “misguided,” saying: “Public schools and the government have an obligation to remain neutral toward religion, but what neutrality does not mean is shielding students entirely. The job of educators is to teach students, and expose them to different worldviews. That’s what happened here.” She added: “One of the most important ways we combat hate is to learn about each other. I am concerned that this group of parents not only wants to counteract that for their own children… but is attempting to intimidate schools and school districts from doing necessary work of educating the next generation.” Learning about others is great. Indoctrinating students into a religion as part of their education isn’t. There’s a clear difference. Keep schools about learning and let students decide what path to follow. Public schools should remain neutral. Teaching about different faiths is appropriate. Handing out religious texts, encouraging students to wear religious clothing, and presenting one religion as uniquely tied to social justice are not.

The ATG School One-Pager I’m not trying to reinvent schooling. There are just a handful of things I believe in which I haven’t seen in any school I’ve been around as a student or parent. Policy #1: Each student gets to be responsible for growing some of their own food, no matter how small, and THROUGHOUT schooling (not just a quickie project here or there). Policy #2: Minimum 1:1 ratio of time NOT SITTING IN THE CLASSROOM. What you do with this is up to you. There are so many real world skills, sports, gardening, music, etc. The strict ratio in the school day is the key for me. Common sense and personal interests can take it from there. Policy #3: Daily time to read whatever you want to read about. The biggest barrier for my reading was INTEREST. Be there to ensure the book is at their level, and to help them if they don’t understand something. Other than that, LET THEM ENJOY READING, ALL THE WAY THROUGH SCHOOL, not just in early years. Policy #4: (This is the most unusual yet the biggest reason I’m in education.) High school is a 50/50 bridge to winning in real life. Mornings are for actual work, making and SAVING UP MONEY. Afternoons are for learning finances and professional skills of YOUR INTEREST. With average work, you’ll finish school with $50,000-$100,000 in the bank, more skills than the norm, and a greater chance of creating your life and work from there on out, rather than conforming to make a paycheck. Policy #5: As part of the high school 50/50 system, ensure each student learns the adult financial red tape in your state/country before you’ve got bills, kids, etc.

⚖️🌪️School Safety Shattered: Gunman at Zwir Elementary Walks Free on $75,000 Bond Parents in Klein, Texas, are in disbelief and fear after an armed Iraqi national—caught prowling Zwir Elementary with a firearm—was handed a "get out of jail" card by the Harris County judicial system. Despite the sheer terror of an elementary school lockdown, Judge Lorina Chambers Gray authorized a $75,000 bond, allowing the suspect to post bail and walk —right back into the community he just targeted. Judge Gray is a member of the Democratic Party and was first elected to the 262nd District Court in November 2018. She was part of a historic group of 19 African American women, often referred to as "Harris County Black Girl Magic” It’s a chilling reminder of a legal system that seems more concerned with “firsts” and the "rights" of an armed intruder than the lives of kids hiding under their desks. The school community is shaken and vulnerable over this release. There’s been a firestorm of criticism over local leadership’s refusal to keep dangerous migrants behind bars. ⚖️🇺🇸

i turned 25 today, and the best gift i could give myself was this → building a school 🏫 for years i thought i’d need to save money before doing this, but today i just took the decision. we’re starting with two villages, one in bihar and one in madhya pradesh. i spoke to my maternal uncle in a small village in bihar, and with his support, we’ve begun. our Rightfit (We’re hiring) team will live in villages for 6–12+ days at a time, in b/w every 6–12 months, we’ll be visiting different villages across india where education is most needed. we’ll be teaching kids, parents, and teachers, while also learning from their culture, food, and daily lives. this will be one of the many initiatives we are building at rightfit. our community with more than 7,000+ members is also completely free. people have already found jobs, mentors, and opportunities there, without paying a single rupee. we’ve seen how powerful free knowledge-sharing can be, and we want to bring the same spirit into rural education 🙌 this school will always be free, no revenue model, no hidden agenda. we believe education should be free for every child, and we hold on to the philosophy that knowledge only grows when it’s passed on. i don’t know where this will go, but if even one spark is lit inside a child, it will mean we’ve done something meaningful. so yeah, we’re building something amazing, something a little crazy!!! if you want updates on our journey, routes, plans, growth, failures, join our waitlist by sending your email at 🌼 if you’d like to be a part of this, write to us at team@rightfit.so 💌 [ rethinking education in indian villages ]
