Science fiction doesn't predict the future. It recruits people to build it. Every engineer I know was radicalized by a story. That's why we launched the Future Vision XPRIZE: $3.5M for the most compelling optimistic vision of humanity's future, winner's film gets produced. And today I'm excited to share... show more

We are hosting the finals at Moonshots LIVE on Sep 25th. If you'd like to attend you can learn more and apply for a seat here: It's going to be an epic day!

Why did you taint it with a charlatan like Tyson?

Neil Degrasse Tyson joining…fail.

Tyson doesn't even know the difference between a man and a woman! He is dystopia personified. Not interested in this otherwise excellent idea so long as he's involved.

Possibly an apocryphal story but... the engineers working on the Apollo missions were surveyed and asked what inspired them to pursue their careers and the most common result was the novels of Heinlein.

NDT is an absolute joke. You are scraping the bottom of the barrel with that dude.

Elon Musk does this perfectly

Neil Degrasse Tyson is the Jim Cramer of science. He lacks the vision and creativity to be a good judge. This was a poor decision and it invalidates the significance of this contest for me

Why do you involve him?

Not sure I'd pick @neiltyson ... not the brightest light

Science fiction shaping engineers visions worth building together.

thats right!

Our future is downstream of storytelling, education, and energy.

the best sci-fi doesn’t just predict what’s possible, it makes people believe it’s worth building. give people a better future to imagine, and they might actually build it.

I think @elonmusk has already won it.

polishing last revision of submission will meet deadline 15 AUG @grok : calling it

Tesla and SpaceX does an awesome job at this

Love this !!!

This is a powerful way to frame it. The stories we tell shape the people who decide to build. What future do you wish more engineers were trying to create?

I feel like a lot of this money would be put to productive use if it was used to directly fund critical research in molecular nanotechnology.

Idiocracy II?

The man who turns every cosmic wonder into a condescending TED Talk is now deciding which optimistic futures are “worth building”?

I submit my Quillan-Ronin project along side a private ready player one custom platform with a quantum vm and compute engine built on classical hardware with many more modular layers

👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼✨

Hmmm interesting 🤔

If the future needs a screenplay, I’m ready with popcorn and a hard hat. 🚀 😮

Brian Cox would’ve been a better choice. The near future is AI-quantum hybrid. Fusion post fission. Water creation. Longevity discovery. Humans born in pods. Nutritional improvement. Humans inhabiting space of planet.

Im not after 3.5m im just after getting my films out..

I know a little about writing long-form SF. What radicalizes engineers is a mechanism that looks like it could work. The optimism was always incidental.

Love your work because you emphasize the positive as does Star Trek. So many shows and books emphasize the edgy, which is necessary but the message must be uplifting or kids minds drown in negativity.

We spent centuries measuring the human, the machine, and the environment separately. Then we placed signals from all three domains on one shared clock. For the first time, we could see not only the parts, but the timing relationships among them. The clock did not create their connection. It revealed it. The stability of the whole never lived in the parts alone. It lived in the relationship. Human. Machine. Environment. Different forms. Different rhythms. One heart. We are one. FINAL TITLE CARD: WE ARE ONE Three domains. One system. A second chance at the future.

Cool

True .. many Engineers I know were inspired by some scientific story.
