THIS IS BIG: A Kuwaiti F/A-18 fighter jet shot down a USAF F-15E jet in a close-range fight with what appears to be AIM-9 Sidewinder air-to-air missile on March 2. It appears the Kuwaiti pilot either intentionally shot down the U.S. jet or made a very serious mistake. The authenticity of the clip has not been confirmed yet. Note that a single Kuwaiti F/A-18 Hornet jet accidentally shot down three U.S. F-15E Strike Eagles. The Hornet fired three air-to-air missiles, destroying all three jets.

A friendly Hornet, flying air defense in a crowded airspace, misidentified a formation of Strike Eagles as hostile and fired three missiles in quick succession, at least one of which looked like a Sidewinder. Miraculously, there were no fatalities. This wasn't a dogfight in the traditional sense, the F-15Es weren't fighting or maneuvering to avoid the attack. It was more of a confused F/A-18 pilot making a split-second call under pressure. But strip away the tragedy and you're left with a hard fact: modern jets, flying real combat sorties in 2026, ended up close enough for a visual-range, heat-seeking engagement! 2/3
