Scientists in Australia recently discovered a spider that builds traps on plants trafficked by ants that, once triggered, fling the ants up into the spider’s web. The spider only eats green tree ants and is the only spider in the world observed hunting prey like this. Meet the Ballista Spider.

Scientists have discovered a new spider called the Ballista Spider and its the most insane thing ive ever seen. It creates a tiny spring loaded lure for a specific type of aggressive tree ant, covering the lure in pheromones, and when the ant bites the lure it cuts the thin webbing holding it and launches the ant into the air at 1,300 meters per second squared, and into its web high above the other ants. Which is absolutely crazy. Not only is it one of the only spiders ever to use extremely elastic webbing to create a spring loaded trap specifically meant to be triggered by the prey, but it is one of the only spiders ever to adapt its entire hunting system for one specific type of prey! It also has the strongest and most elastic webbing we’ve ever seen, because the ants have have special feet that firmly stick them to surfaces, so the web has to be able to launch an ant with strength of multiple times the ants body weight!!

That’s the spider tailed horned viper. It uses aggressive mimicry, its tail looks and moves like a spider to lure birds in. To the right prey, it basically signals "easy spider meal".

As temperatures soar, a spider races to seal her burrow before the deadly heat takes over. For hotrod ants, this is the only time to work, though office hours don’t always come with safe working conditions. 🥵🐜 #HostilePlanet is now streaming on Disney+ and Hulu.

the true definition of “spider-man is real” type shit. the fact that they shot this web swinging sequence with no cgi and full on practical use in the 90’s is just pretty creative for a spider-man fan film.

In Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), when Tom Holland’s Peter Parker mentions being part of the Avengers, Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man responds, “The Avengers? What is that?” While Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man asks, “Are you in a band?” This exchange suggests that neither Tobey nor Andrew’s Spider-Men had any connection to the Avengers in their respective universes. However, there’s a detail that complicates the ongoing theory that Tobey’s Spider-Man was the only superhero in his universe: Doctor Strange was already mentioned in Spider-Man 2. This suggests that another superhero may have existed there, even if he was never seen. So while Tobey may have had no Avengers to call for help during Avengers: Doomsday, he likely wasn’t necessarily the only hero in his world.

“What’s Up Danger” in SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE (2018) is perfection. Miles has seen the cost of being Spider-Man and takes the leap anyway. One song, one jump, one of the greatest hero moments ever put on screen.
