Scotland needs to have a proper conversation with itself about this. Urgently. Cos we've all seen this creep into our communities. Do we want our country to become a retirement home and playground for the wealth accumulated in the south east of the UK?

You saw that very example when Covid hit, lines of caravan owners charging up to Scotland to try an avoid it. They didn't care if they were infected or not. Infact, Prince Charles WAS infected and came up, no thought about how he could have kicked off more infection in that area

@toddy19 We thought we had new neighbours, we live in a small town in Ayrshire, our neighbours “sic” sold up down south a modest 3 bedroom semi, and bought two homes here, one to live in and one as a renting opportunity ABB. They told us this quite openly, keep an eye on things they said.

The problems of Scotland always lead back to who owns and controls the LAND. The Scotgov have the power to change this but do hee-haw about it.

I've screamed for years at our government's push to make our economy so dependent on tourism. This is the obvious outcome. I hoped seeing the damage caused to our economy when covid shut down tourism would wake people up to the harm but nope, big push to get it started back up.

Great post and thank you for articulating the problem. It's evident that even where I live in Central Scotland that the amount of non Scottish voices that can be heard locally is increasing. Not youthful contributors to a workforce but mostly retirees.

It’s true. And in Edinburgh the only genuine local accents are in the schemes. Nobody can afford to buy or rent in the centre.

'i'm not anti-english, but i hate English people and I hate them buying property near me and I support a version of independent Scotland that will prevent English people from accessing Scotland either as a visitor or resident.'

We have to rethink the whole independence movement. Exclude the toxic colonial influence from it and then work out criteria for citizenship post indy working on the assumpution that owning a property here does not automatically allow residence.

But wait, immigration is good and we welcome immigrants in Scotland?

WATCH] On behalf of the African National Congress, I want to state that we a country of over 60 million. There are many people who come to our country and many come to our country to contribute to the wealth of our country and its progress. Many contribute positively in our country. There are people in our country who have taken it upon themselves to do things which the vast majority do not condone and this must not paint South Africans as xenophobic. Indeed we do have a challenge of illegal immigration in South Africa and it’s not a problem unique to South Africa. There are many country’s affected by this. South Africa is a signatory of the Geneva Convention and we must deal with this challenge within the perimeters of the law. We can’t deal with it with hatred. That is why government has adopted a program of action to deal with this particular challenge which the President has made a public announcement. We have called for law enforcement and calmness and follow the government’s Action Plan on dealing with illegal immigration. We have made it very clear as the ANC, we cannot and should not be associated with anything that amounts to hate crimes. In this particular instance the majority of South Africans are people of Ubuntu and humanity. Because we too would not be free without the solidarity and assistance of country’s such as Mozambique in the fight against apartheid. Many people sacrificed such as Samora Machel the President of Mozambique and many combatants died here fighting against apartheid. #ANCinMozambique #ANCatWORK
