"If they want to see some lower scores, they can make them softer if they want. I mean, they're already pretty firm, so they can just go full Bay Hill and just let them die. It's Augusta. They'll figure it out after that."

Italy once told people to leave a medieval village about 30 miles from Rome because it was considered unsafe. Artists moved in instead. The village is Calcata Vecchia, a small hill town in northern Lazio built on volcanic rock above the Treja Valley. From a distance, it barely looks real. The houses sit right along the edge of the cliff, packed together behind a single old gateway. Once you walk through it, the cars are gone. The streets narrow almost immediately, twisting between old houses and small courtyards. Calcata almost didn’t make it this far. In 1935, the Italian government declared the old village at risk. Beginning in the 1960s, many residents moved to Calcata Nuova, the newer settlement nearby. But Calcata Vecchia was never completely abandoned. Then artists started moving in. So did musicians, architects, craftspeople and people looking for somewhere cheap and unusual to live. They fixed up old houses and turned some of them into studios and workshops. Over time, Calcata Vecchia developed a reputation as an artists’ village. Walk through the gate today and you might pass a ceramics shop, a tiny gallery or someone selling handmade jewelry from an old stone room. There are cafés and restaurants squeezed into the buildings. Laundry hangs from windows. Cats wander through the lanes. You might pass someone working in a studio, then find an opening between the houses looking down into the Treja Valley. The village is small. You could probably walk across it quickly if that were the goal. I wouldn’t. I’d leave the car outside, walk through the old entrance and wander for a while. Eventually you’ll reach the main square and the Church of the Holy Name of Jesus, whose origins go back to the Middle Ages. From there, take whichever narrow street looks interesting and see where it goes. Not long ago, Calcata’s future looked pretty uncertain. Many longtime residents had moved to Calcata Nuova after the old village was declared unsafe, while others remained. Then a new group of people arrived, saw something worth keeping and started putting down roots of their own. Calcata never became a preserved old town where everything stopped changing. People kept living there. That’s what makes it interesting to me. You can come for the cliffside setting and the old streets, but knowing that the village was written off, lost much of its population and then found new life as artists began moving in changes how you look at it. More than half a century later, people are still living behind that old gate. A brave Lebanese photo journalist who is still based in Nabatieh was able to capture at least one Merkava tank burning in the outskirts of Arnoun Castle, on the outskirts of Nabatieh region, after a failed Israeli invasion attempt from Yohmor village towards the strategic hill top. The resistance did announce earlier targeting 3 Merkava tanks with ATGMs, while Israeli evacuation helicopters were seen at least 3 times today evacuating Israeli casulaties from the battlefield. The blackout imposed on the area by the Israelis warning everyone for complete evacuation of entire South Lebanon and targeting cars on the roads lead to very few journalists able to access the area and report the situation. I added a video for the area for the audience to understand the location and geography of the scenes, where Arnoun castle sits on a hill top located 5 kms away from the borders, and is elevated 700 m above sea level and 300 meters above its outskirts. more than 200 Israeli airstrikes attacked the vilages in direct outskirts of Arnoun and Yohmor and Zawtar in the last 48 hours, with continuous artillery shelling. I was not able to reach there today after the road i usually take, Zefta, was warned and bombed. Yesterday, the same road witnessed an ugly attack against a truck loaded with horses, their owner was trying to evacuate them from his farm in Zefta village. These images coming from the frontline are very important as they dismantle the Israeli systematic psychological warfare on our people about an "easy invasion", and depict the reality on the ground they are facing despite all their unlimited fire power and unchalleged air superiority due to unconditional and open western support.

Cameron Smith says Augusta National is already pretty firm and he’s expecting it to be firm and fast at this week’s Masters: “I think the course is in great shape and it’s already pretty firm. It seems like the grass is really full. It’s always in good condition here but it seems like there’s just a little bit more grass. It’s just a little bit fuller and there’s no rain in the forecast so they can really do whatever they want. It’ll be firm and fast, I would assume.” He went on to talk about strategy in the firm conditions: “Just be smart and just play good golf. It’s a place where if you’re playing good you can be super aggressive and if you’re not playing great you’ve got to play really smart and kind of get to the positions where you can get it up and down. The English spent years trying to take Mont Saint-Michel during the Hundred Years’ War. They never did. From a distance, it’s easy to see why the place has become one of the most photographed sights in France. A medieval village climbs a granite rock in the middle of a tidal bay, with an abbey sitting at the top. The religious story goes back to the early 8th century, when a sanctuary dedicated to the Archangel Michael was established on the rock. Benedictine monks arrived in 966, and over the centuries the abbey kept growing. With so little room on the rock, much of it had to be built vertically. Churches, halls, cloisters and living quarters were stacked onto the site over generations. On the north side, the 13th-century Gothic complex known as La Merveille, or “The Marvel,” rises in levels above the bay. By the early 1400s, the Hundred Years’ War had changed Normandy completely. Much of the region had fallen under English control, while Mont Saint-Michel continued to hold out. The village had walls and towers, and the bay itself made attacking the place difficult. Tides could change the ground around the mount quickly, turning open flats into water and making movement harder for an army. English forces began besieging Mont Saint-Michel in 1423. More than a decade later, they were still trying to take it. In 1434, English troops launched another attack with heavy artillery. The assault failed, and two large bombards were left behind. The English never captured the mount. The fortifications make a lot more sense once you know what was happening around it. This was a religious community sitting in the middle of a war zone, surrounded by territory that had largely fallen into enemy hands. I’d keep that in mind while walking up through the village. Most people stop for the view across the bay, and obviously you should too. But the climb through the gates, ramparts and narrow streets feels different when you know those defenses were actually tested. Then keep going until you reach the abbey. Inside, you start to see how much had to be fitted onto such a small piece of rock. Rooms are stacked on top of one another. Passageways run through different levels. Parts of the complex feel almost as defensive as they do monastic. At certain high tides, Mont Saint-Michel still looks cut off from the mainland. That shifting landscape was part of what made the place so difficult to approach for centuries. If I were planning the trip, I wouldn’t rush it.
