Election shyster Marc Elias is big mad abt SCOTUS fixing the Voting Rights Act. He thought race-based districts were a permanent gift to the Dems. Nope. There can be no permanent discrimination, only fixes limited in time for a specific wrong. The VRA passed in 1965 and 60 years is a long time. Chief Justice Roberts said it perfectly: "The only way to stop racial discrimination is to stop discriminating by race." The signature and vital victories of the Civil Rights movement now need to comport with the 14th Amendment and Equal Protection under the law. That means the Dems have to treat Black people equally and recognize they have agency. There has been no institutional racism in the country since the 70s and the mythical Systemic Racism they invented falls apart under simple scrutiny. In the college admissions case Roberts wrote an opinion that said a cure as severe using racial discrimination to remedy a previous wrong had to eventually end. "[E]nshrining a permanent justification for racial preferences,’ the Court explained, ‘would offend this fundamental equal protection principle.’” And it does offend the Equal Protection Clause and decent people everywhere. Time to have one set of rules for everyone.

With respect to the argument over whether Darlington was good or overhyped, I thought Mark Martin put it best before(!) the race yesterday. "My excitement for today is to see how hard it is and to witness greatness. My fear is, sometimes when you have that, it might not be as entertaining. "And I just hope that everyone embraces the race today as, hey, not every race is Atlanta, not every race is Talladega. And this is what it is. It may be an incredible finish to this race, or it may not be. We may see greatness separated by not so much greatness, I don't know. "I wouldn't want every race to be anything. I think we need a variety. And I'm excited about this particular race with less downforce."
