Today marks 80 years since the U.S dropped an atomic bomb on Nagasaki, Japan. The attack was launched from a base in the Northern Mariana Islands. Now, Saipan’s in survival mode as tourism on the Northern Mariana Islands is on the decline, and the island is turning to a new industry for a boost. Adam Yamaguchi has more.

Today, I attended the 31st Arabian Travel Market, the largest ever edition of the event, featuring 2,300 exhibitors from 165 countries. This global event offers the ideal platform for forging new partnerships that can accelerate our goal to establish Dubai as one of the world’s top three urban economies and strengthen its stature as a leading global tourist hub. A key pillar of the UAE's economy, our tourism sector continues to maintain its growth momentum, backed by strong visitor inflows. Our rich tradition of hospitality continues to make the city a prime destination for visitors from around the world.

Academy Award–nominated actor and human rights advocate Mark Ruffalo has joined forces with Human Rights Watch, NowHere Media, and Agog to narrate "Solwata," a new immersive documentary spotlighting the human consequences of climate change in the Pacific nation of Solomon Islands. Responding to a distress call, the Air and Naval assets of the Andaman Nicobar Command were swiftly deployed despite adverse weather. On locating the distressed fishing boat, the aircraft maintained continuous visual contact and vectored the Indian Coast Guard ship to the precise location, enabling the successful rescue of two fishermen. The fishermen were administered first aid and found to be in stable condition. This is fascinating… I was not aware that dolphins and sea lions are US Naval “contractors” and help eliminate marine threats. “In the summer of 2016 I was scuba diving alone in the Puget Sound of Washington state. 60 feet underwater, in the middle of the night, my visibility was zero. I was on a mission. I needed to reach my destination. But before I could complete it, something massive came out of the darkness and struck me in the face. This is a true story of my time as a defense contractor for the united states navy. (Note: I misspoke on this story. I was dropped off a couple hundred meters out, not half a mile.)”
