CENTCOM Partners with Over 30 Nations, International Organizations for International Maritime Exercise (IMX) 2025 U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) hosted the International Maritime Exercise (IMX) 2025, the Middle East region’s largest multinational maritime exercise, February 9-20. IMX 25 involved 5,000 personnel from more than 30 nations and international organizations committed to preserving the rules-based international order and strengthening regional maritime security cooperation. Hosted by U.S. Naval Forces Central Command (NAVCENT), the 12-day exercise offered a unique opportunity for participants to collaborate and illustrate the importance of regional maritime security cooperation. This year’s iterations of IMX is linked with exercise Cutlass Express, a U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa led annual exercise designed to enhance regional maritime awareness and the combined capabilities of partner nations to respond to maritime threats. The operational phase of IMX included partner exchanges on mine countermeasures, unmanned systems and artificial intelligence integration, vessel defense, search and rescue, and mass casualty response. Allies and partners at IMX 25 also had an opportunity to train with Combined Task Force West (CTF-W) Headquarters where partner forces performed Explosive Ordnance Disposal and dive operations, Close Quarters Combat drills, and Visit, Board, Search, and Seizure (VBSS) container climbs. Additionally, CTF-W hosted eight partner nations, including six members from the Republic of Yemen Government (ROYG) Coast Guard in Aqaba, the Northern Red Sea, and Eilat. “IMX 25 demonstrates the collective commitment of our respective allies and partners to support regional maritime security cooperation, increase interoperability, and strengthen security and stability in the region,” said Gen. Michael Erik Kurilla, CENTCOM commander. This is the ninth iteration of IMX since its establishment in 2012.

PCG and USCG Conclude Joint Passing Exercise (PASSEX) Near Lubang Island The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and the United States Coast Guard (USCG) successfully completed a Joint Passing Exercise (PASSEX) yesterday in the waters of Lubang Island. The exercise involved the PCG's BRP Melchora Aquino (MRRV 9702) and the USCG Cutter Waesche (WMSL-751). Sharing similar mandates, values, and objectives of protecting lives at sea and maintaining a rules-based maritime order, this exercise highlights the closer and expanding relations between the Coast Guards of the two allied nations. The exercise aims to strengthen maritime cooperation and interoperability between the two Coast Guard services in the areas of maritime safety and environmental protection. The PASSEX exercise focused on simulating various scenarios, including Search and Rescue (SAR), firefighting, communication exercises (COMEX), and medical evacuation (MEDEVAC). By sharing best practices, concepts, doctrines, and standard operating procedures, the PCG and USCG enhance their respective capabilities to respond to maritime emergencies and contingencies. The exercise commenced at 7 am yesterday, July 16, 2024, immediately upon the arrival of the USCG Waesche at the designated exercise area. The entire exercise was completed by 12 noon. The joint exercise underscores the commitment of both Coast Guards to their vital role in safeguarding lives at sea, promoting maritime security, and protecting the marine environment. I began my working trip to the Odesa region by holding a coordination meeting with the Command of the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, focused on security issues in the southern region. Primary attention was given to countering constant Russian air attacks with “shaheds” and missiles, as well as readiness to respond to threats at sea. We also addressed our deep-strike operations, strengthening communication systems, mine countermeasure capabilities, and training and equipping naval infantry. We discussed increasing the number of helicopters to enhance air defense in the region and counter drone threats. I began my working trip to the Odesa region by holding a coordination meeting with the Command of the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, focused on security issues in the southern region. Primary attention was given to countering constant Russian air attacks with “shaheds” and missiles, as well as readiness to respond to threats at sea. We also addressed our deep-strike operations, strengthening communication systems, mine countermeasure capabilities, and training and equipping naval infantry. We discussed increasing the number of helicopters to enhance air defense in the region and counter drone threats.
