These people don’t understand economics. Just simple economics. My daughter thought that teachers should be paid at minimum a hundred thousand. I told her then that 100,000 would only be worth the current 40,000 because teachers are a dime a dozen. They are not a specialist. If you raise their salaries then it would spend the same because the market value would correct dollar for dollar. She didn’t like that but it’s true. It’s why it is so expensive to buy a hamburger now then it was just 5 years ago and it will never be cheap again. You could eat lunch for 5, then 10, now it’s 15. Before long it will be 25 for just a burger. fries and drink. That was for four in the 80s. The free market should decide. Not the government.

Let's take McClendons. The garden center used to be beautiful. As soon as $20 per hour hit, they downsized to only seven total employees for the garden department. Now, most of the time the garden entrance is fenced off closed due to nobody at those registers. The garden center this year finally totally went down the drain as most of the plants were just dead or dying.

@judgeglock @ManhattanInst It did make things worse. Now take a look at the mandated minimum wage for full-service restaurants in Seattle. The same cost-push inflation is happening. The same impact on customer traffic, which leads to loss of hours, jobs and whole entire establishments.

Since Uber was made an example of evil corporate greed that can pay for much higher wages. Uber made $10B in profit last year. It has 10 million monthly (full-time) drivers. So, Uber makes $1,000 per year, per driver. There is 2000 hours in a standard work year, so Uber make a grand total of $0.50 profit per hour, per driver.

No need to guess where my money goes after the government stepped in & mandated some things. I’m in NY & it’s hard to believe the fees & insurance. Am I to believe that if I worked like I did this week I’d be paying $40,000 a year for mandated commercial insurance held by @uber on my behalf & paid to @LibertyMutual . And what the hell are these government fees! Fees for what!?! Uber covers $0 of any operational costs of the vehicle & I drive about 1000 miles per week to make this, maybe more. And the money I do make would be taxed at the end of the year?!? On what planet is this able to provide even the basics to survive in NY? Rent alone for even a 1 bedroom is $2500. It’s impossible to make enough to live even if I drove every hour allotted by Uber which is 12 hours a day & the only time that counts it to & from the pickup to destination so if you work 12 “full hours” You are really out there for 15-18 hours because in between calls it’s like you are off the clock. Gas alone is 20% of what we take home, & don’t get me started on if we take rides to areas we can’t pick people up in; that’s double the miles & gas to get back AND off the clock. @AGPamBondi @NewYorkStateAG Remove all government fees & @Uber dump @LibertyMutual & find a company that takes much less from us.

@judgeglock @ManhattanInst This is exactly what’s happening here in SoCal. People are ditching the delivery apps, cooking at home more, or ordering directly through the restaurant’s app and cutting out the middleman by picking up the food themselves.

Increasing drivers’ productivity is the key here. If a driver can deliver the more within the same time frame everyone wins. Cities should create ways to have incentives to reduce delivery time. Help the apps reduce delivery time or even help them optimize more deliveries within the same time.
