The US push stems from ongoing efforts to bolster domestic semiconductor production amid geopolitical tensions, particularly concerns over Taiwan's vulnerability to potential Chinese aggression. Rejecting the split protects its dominance in advanced chipmaking, but risks escalating trade frictions. It seems to me that Taiwan is reluctant to transfer its production to the US. The underlying reason is that production plays a crucial role in protecting Taiwan's sovereignty. A full-scale invasion or blockade of Taiwan by China could be used to weaponize the semiconductor industry and dominate the global supply. The United States would never allow that.
