Jet Fuel is a fascinating story. We don’t measure it in litres, we measure it in weight, because fuel expands/contracts with temperature while weight stays constant. Jet fuel’s specific gravity is ~0.8, so 1 litre ≈ 0.8 kg (lighter than water). It’s also worth noting that jet fuel is essentially a highly refined kerosene, far less volatile than gasoline, which makes it safer to handle in large quantities. On a long-haul, fuel can be close to half the aircraft’s total weight at departure. On the A350-1000, that can be ~129 tonnes. At most major international airports, this much fuel doesn’t turn up in a tanker. It’s stored in a depot and delivered through a network of underground hydrant pipes to each stand. The “tanker” you see is really a pump truck connecting the hydrant to the aircraft and metering the exact uplift. When I moved from the A340-600 to the A350-1000, one of the things that struck me most was just how much simpler and smarter the fuel system became and how much less fuel we required for the same journeys. On the A340-600, we needed a rear trim tank in the tail to keep the aircraft in balance during cruise. It worked beautifully, but it added complexity. The A350 doesn’t need that, instead, it uses tiny fractions of flap in cruise, together with the latest wing aerodynamics, to keep perfectly in trim. Played Kingdoms of the Dump for 30 hours, here is my review: -The game is a loving homage to classic SNES RPGs like Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy, perfectly capturing their atmosphere -A tactical turn-based combat system with active elements, reminiscent of Super Mario RPG or more recently Expedition 33 -One of the most unique settings ever in an RPG -Incredible variety of enemies, all beautifully rendered in pixel art (boss design by Look Outside pixel artist) -The game is divided into multiple acts, taking you through a wide variety of regions and kingdoms -It’s full of charm and incredible attention to detail. Heal with rotting items, fight flying jellyshorts, and save using toilet paper rolls on toilets. Just lovely. -Fun fact: Game is made by 2 real janitors -The original soundtrack is an absolute banger, instantly transporting you back to the SNES era -There’s a Mode 7-style overworld that you can explore on foot, on a mount, or by airship -The overworld invites exploration and is packed with secrets and hidden areas -What brings the game into the modern era is a dedicated jump button. You can jump pretty much anywhere and explore the world on entirely new levels -There are also various characters, each with unique abilities outside of combat, and you can switch between them at any time -Characters are just lovely -The game is wonderfully written and well paced, full of great story moments and twists, but it’s only available in English at the moment -I would compare the difficulty to Chrono Trigger. It’s challenging but never unfair, and grinding is never necessary -If you die in a battle, you can retry it immediately -Enemies are visible before battle and can be avoided -Fast battles, quick in and out -Various battle themes -Fallen characters and those outside your active party still gain experience -The game is pure indie at heart, over eight years in the making and packed with content -Lots of side quests -Dedicated character quests that explore each character’s backstory -Secret weapons and bosses -Dungeons with puzzle elements -25 hours of story content (more with side stuff) -Only 20 bucks (discount right now) -Great on Steam Deck -Full controller support -Sometimes the jumping sections demand too much precision -I ran into a few bugs during my playtime. The game froze, I got stuck in walls, the music sometimes cut out, and I wasn’t able to use an item at one point -I reached out to the developers, and they have already responded with multiple updates Kingdoms of the Dump is a love letter to an era that produced some of the greatest RPGs of all time. It is an honor for me to be in the Republic of South Africa today on my first visit. This morning, our country endured another Russian attack — a massive one, with over 200 aerial threats: missiles, including ballistic ones, and attack drones. Unfortunately, there have been destructions and losses in our capital and other cities. Over 80 people have been wounded in these strikes. Tragically, there are fatalities. In Kyiv, among those killed were a brother and sister — the young man was 21, and the young woman was 19. My condolences to all those who have lost their loved ones. Rescue operations are still ongoing. Because of this Russian attack, I have decided to shorten the program of my visit to South Africa; however, our Minister for Foreign Affairs remains here — as a sign of our respect and to carry out all the meetings that were scheduled. We are grateful for the respect shown to Ukraine, for the support, and for the shared sense — the sense that this war must be brought to an end as soon as possible. Today, President Cyril Ramaphosa 🇿🇦 and I discussed the importance of uniting global efforts as fully as possible now to apply the necessary pressure on Russia — pressure for the sake of peace. We also spoke about the opportunities within the G20 framework — South Africa currently holds the G20 Presidency, and the role of the Group of Twenty can be significantly greater in defending human life.

Disappointments surround us from all sides. We feel broken.. But we will definitely come back from under the rubble.. We in the north Gaza cling to the land like the roots of trees clinging to the soil. There is no wind that can uproot people who want to remain in their place. We are not just numbers.... We have a case. But there is no justice in this world.. My friends and loved ones.. Based on your advice, I decided to buy cat food and not wait. But I decided not to buy for a very long time for fear of wasting money. I also want to buy now so that I do not feel regret if a ceasefire occurs. Everyone knows that we have to buy from the black market, and unfortunately the prices are very ridiculous. So I will buy enough to last 3 months.. I will try to do my best to find food for cats, but if I cannot, the alternative option will be to use canned human food... I already have enough cat food to last until the end of December. But I want to buy it now because canned meat is available now.. I also mix bread with cat food to make it last longer...as shown in the video below I had a beautiful shelter before the war.. it was completely destroyed.. It had more than 60 cats. There are now about 25 cats left, and there are some cats nearby who find love and food, so they come to eat with the cats in the shelter. today was the first time i was genuinely impressed with what AI can do i recently decided to buy a whole FPV drone setup knowing basically nothing about the hardware side of it there's a pretty steep learning curve even just to set everything up properly: radios, RF protocols, flight controllers, ESCs, firmware, batteries, goggles, betaflight configs etc as someone that spends essentially 12h a day prompting agents to build software, it's actually pretty rare that i interact with AI on something where i have zero idea what's going on under the hood, and i never really used it for debugging a bunch of physical devices that all have to talk to each other i had codex + voice mode open for basically the entire setup. told it everything i bought, sent it some pics and then just started talking to it >what order do i set all this up in >how do i change this setting on the radio >which of these cables do i use >the drone is flashing pink wat mean >can you make this thing less insane to fly in my apartment and it was surprisingly seamless it would go find the manual for whatever specific thing i was holding, tell me exactly which buttons to press, what port to plug something into, what i should see if it worked etc then when i got to configuring the actual drone i had codex running on the computer it was plugged into, so it could inspect the config, back everything up, change settings, send usb reboot signals and check what happened the insane thing about voice mode is that youre literally hands on with the hardware and just telling codex what it should do, i literally never touched a thing on the computer besides starting voice mode if something doesn't work you tell it what happened and keep going a few hours of this and i had the radio, goggles, charger, batteries, drone firmware and betaflight all set up and had actually flown the thing the part that stuck with me is that i also understood what most of it was doing by the end, every time there was a term or tech i didnt understand id just ask to explain there is something absolutely magical about having proper real time personalized assistance, being able to dump a pile of unfamiliar hardware on your desk and have something figure out exactly what you own and walk through it with you in real time you become the missing physical link pressing the buttons i think spending all day using coding agents has actually made me pretty numb to AI progress. every new model is a bit better at some benchmark or can oneshot some task that the previous one couldn't and you just kinda adjust to it this felt different mostly because i had no existing knowledge to fall back on for the first time the jarvis comparison didn't feel cringe ai for coding and general computer tasks is cool and all but this feels a lot closer to the endgame anyone should be able to just ask any question about whats going on in their life and have realtime support i wonder if more hardware products will actually start exposing some sort of MCP or interface for agents to plug into thinking for example of how elevators in china are increasingly built with interfaces that let delivery robots call them directly instead of having to physically press a button we might actually start seeing hardware design shift from being purely human-interface-first to also being agent-interface-first buttons, screens and menus exist because humans need some way to tell machines what to do. agents don't necessarily need any of that if the hardware exposes an interface directly very curious which side closes the physical world gap first: humanoid robots that can operate hardware designed for humans, or hardware adapting so agents can operate it directly

Today was my hardest workout before the Javelina 100—an uphill treadmill supercompensation session accumulating 60 minutes of intervals at 10% grade, starting at threshold and ending harder. I think uphill treadmill threshold sessions can be magical for some athletes. Threshold work is classically defined as LT2 or easier, around what you could sustain for 1 hour. In practice, that feels relatively relaxed at first, and it only starts to get harder after you accumulate a substantial amount of volume. The rationale of threshold work is that it improves lactate shuttling, helping mitochondria be more efficient at processing and transporting lactate, preventing fatigue cascades even at harder efforts on other days (or at easier efforts in marathons or ultras). In other words, it’s primarily an aerobic stress. Faster is not better. The real-world obstacles with threshold work are twofold. First, for most of us, it’s pretty slow when done right, or way too hard when done wrong. A study on the training of elite athletes found that long intervals had the lowest correlation with long-term growth, and this conundrum is probably why—athletes do their long intervals too hard, breaking themselves down without the mechanical or aerobic stimulus to justify it. Second, outdoor threshold work can be an injury risk. If I tried this workout outdoors, it would wreck my calves and high hamstrings for days. The uphill treadmill can help athletes get around these hurdles. It’s slower by design, putting the emphasis squarely on the aerobic system. That helps athletes develop a much more precise understanding of threshold. But perhaps most significantly, the uphill treadmill reduces impact forces immensely. When I finish one of these—even a supercompensation session—I feel fine the next day, allowing me to absorb way more work (and more specific work to my goals). Particularly with age, I find that running training is about managing the efforts that are high impact to be limited and focused. Kazakh Steppe; the world's largest steppe region : The steppe grasslands of Eurasia were once among the most extensive in the world, stretching from eastern Romania, Moldova and Ukraine in eastern Europe (often referred to as the Pontic steppe) east through Kazakhstan and western Russia). Together, the Pontic and Kazakh steppes, often collectively referred to as the Pontian steppe, comprise about 24% of the world’s temperate grasslands. They eventually link to the vast grasslands of eastern Asia extending to Mongolia, China and Siberian Russia, together creating the largest complex of temperate grasslands on earth. The remaining extent and ecological condition of these grasslands varies considerably by region. Today in eastern Europe, for example, only 3–5 % remain in a natural or near natural state, with only 0.2% protected. In contrast, the eastward extension of these steppes into Kazakhstan reveals lower levels of disturbance, where as much as 36% remain in a semi-natural or natural state. Although current levels of protection in this region are also very low, the steppes of Kazakhstan have the potential to offer significant opportunities for increased conservation and protection. The Kazakh steppe, also known as the Kirghiz steppe, is itself one of the largest dry steppe regions on the planet, covering approximately 804,500 square kilometres and extending more than 2,200 kilometres from north of the Caspian Sea east to the Altai Mountains. These grasslands lie at the southern end of the Ural Mountains, the traditional dividing line between Europe and Asia. Kazakh Steppe; the world's largest steppe region : The steppe grasslands of Eurasia were once among the most extensive in the world, stretching from eastern Romania, Moldova and Ukraine in eastern Europe (often referred to as the Pontic steppe) east through Kazakhstan and western Russia). Together, the Pontic and Kazakh steppes, often collectively referred to as the Pontian steppe, comprise about 24% of the world’s temperate grasslands. They eventually link to the vast grasslands of eastern Asia extending to Mongolia, China and Siberian Russia, together creating the largest complex of temperate grasslands on earth. The remaining extent and ecological condition of these grasslands varies considerably by region. Today in eastern Europe, for example, only 3–5 % remain in a natural or near natural state, with only 0.2% protected. In contrast, the eastward extension of these steppes into Kazakhstan reveals lower levels of disturbance, where as much as 36% remain in a semi-natural or natural state. Although current levels of protection in this region are also very low, the steppes of Kazakhstan have the potential to offer significant opportunities for increased conservation and protection. The Kazakh steppe, also known as the Kirghiz steppe, is itself one of the largest dry steppe regions on the planet, covering approximately 804,500 square kilometres and extending more than 2,200 kilometres from north of the Caspian Sea east to the Altai Mountains. These grasslands lie at the southern end of the Ural Mountains, the traditional dividing line between Europe and Asia. This steppe ecosystem is actually comprised of five different ecological zones, including forest steppe, meadow steppe, dry steppe, desertified steppe and steppe semi-desert, collectively occupying about 59% of the area of Kazakhstan. Prior to the 1950’s, the Kazakh steppe was a contiguous intact grassland used extensively by nomadic Kazakh people for grazing their animals.
