I continue to struggle with the death of my friend, His Majesty King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru IV. I have watched him grow, and I have seen the heart he carried for his people. Perhaps that is what makes this loss so difficult to accept. None of us ever believed that the King would leave us this soon, especially at a time when we still needed to work together to transform our communities. He loved God, and every time we met, we prayed together, asking God to help us achieve our crazy dreams for our people. I was looking forward to this year’s Empaako celebrations, where I hoped to serve coffee to the people of Tooro. I will serve coffee in his absence, carrying with me the memories, dreams and hope we shared. Gone too soon, my friend.
