The smoothest/fastest classic motorcycle arcade racer available IMHO, only matched years later by Road Rash on 3DO/PS1/Saturn. It's very playable on emulation due to mouse (analog) support, which resembles one of the control methods on the Amiga version (the game received a number of home versions which were usually competently made).

When Sony first announced that they were going to make a game console, I remember thinking, “Is that really possible?” At the time, Nintendo and Sega had already dominated the market for two generations, and NEC was also building a solid presence of its own. My biggest doubt was about first-party games. Even if they could build the hardware, it was hard to imagine a console succeeding without strong first-party titles. That’s why I always felt NEC was a step behind Sega and Nintendo. Now it’s already been over 30 years since the PlayStation launched—32 years this year—and I never would’ve imagined back then that it would rise to form a two-giant system alongside Nintendo. That little Black Tiger update I was talking about - here are some clips of it. Forgot I needed to do the boss music so I did a quick pass at it tonight too. Boss is working but needs some kinks worked out (and it needs to end the level when it dies). A few other things here and there but pass one is completed. I need to set the traps in this level (and chests I think) to spawn the fire man enemy type. Random wasn't doing a good job of giving me traps so I'll have to adjust it a bit. Jumping on poles is still completely wrong. It should be a shorter wide jump instead of a regular jump and pressing up and jump at the top of a pole should be a big jump up. I'll get to it. Haven't even had time to test it on real hardware this weekend. Later in the week maybe. SEGA SEGA SEGA SEGA. Now back to unity for the rest of the week :) I should have been a pole dancer... oh well, too late. - Daddy <3

In arcades, they were producing 3D games on a completely different level from their competitors, and they were constantly experimenting with new ideas on the home console side as well. If you look at the Mega Drive version of Virtua Racing, SEGA managed to bring over an arcade-quality experience by adding a special processor directly into the cartridge. Seeing that success, they likely realized that a dock-on device with its own dedicated hardware could allow the Mega Drive to handle 3D games—especially SEGA’s arcade-style 3D titles. That idea eventually became the 32X. At the time, the Mega Drive (Genesis) was incredibly popular in North America, so the concept definitely had potential. The problem was its timing. The 32X launched around the same period as SEGA’s next-generation console, the Sega Saturn, which created confusion in the market. If it had been released even a year earlier, giving players earlier access to games like Virtua Fighter and Virtua Racing, it might have achieved much stronger sales. And by the way, the Mega Drive shown in the video is a custom modification that combines the console and the 32X into a single integrated unit. 😆
