A man yearning for his feminine side in a jewellery advertisement? That's precisely what Mohanlal pulls off with ease here! Directed by Prakash Varma (veteran ad film director and the one who recently debuted as an actor/villain the recent Mohanlal starrer Thudarum), the ad's narrative starts with a routine idea - big star is going to act in an ad and walks into the set. When the jewellery goes missing, there are enough signs for you to see what's going on. But not the why. As in, why would a superstar "steal" that? The 'why' is the ad's highlight. This side of Mohanlal is familiar to his fans, from films like Kamaladalam and Vaanaprastham. While we do have men's jewellery (the Men of Platinum campaigns have been showcasing sports stars like MS Dhoni, Suryakumar Yadav, among others) being endorsed by famous men, they don't go into getting those men to demonstrate or showcase their feminine side. They simply use the jewellery within the confines of 'manliness'. And many jewellery brands use male brand ambassadors already - Malabar Gold (including Mohanlal as a brand ambassador!), Jos Alukkas, etc. have used literally the who's who of Indian male film stars already. In this ad though, Mohanlal seems to be transfixed with the jewellery, removed from a female model's neck moments ago, in a way that he not only remembers his feminine side but also embraces it momentarily... till he is interrupted by Prakash Varma. The idea is particularly admirable in these days of the 'Animal' and Manosphere where men seem to forget XY and imagining that they are the non-existent YY. The only other actor who can pull such a thing effortlessly in India is Kamal Haasan. But Mohanlal is adequately versatile enough too, for this idea. While I admire the gender fluidity showcased in the ad, the larger question is this, though: Would women prefer/crave for jewellery if it is shown as being craved by a man (who happens to be Mohanlal, no less)? Or, would they prefer it if they see how it sits on another woman? #advertising #marketing #creativity

Cloud koh opened an episode of “Cloud koh’s SoundCloud” (17 May, SBS After Club) with Jinyoung’s “Will I be okay?” 🧡 ☁️: The first song we listened to was “Will I be okay?” by GOT7’s Jinyoung. I recently had the chance to work with Jinyoung, who is also active as an actor, on his latest album, so I wanted to play that track for you. Ah, this is a bit of a side story right from the start of the radio show, but when I saw singer Jinyoung in the recording studio, he walked in with his cap pulled down low. We greeted each other, started recording, and after everything was finished, he came out of the booth and took off his cap to say goodbye – and he was so handsome. Honestly, I remember thinking he might be the most handsome person I’ve ever seen in my life. Maybe it’s because I haven’t met that many people, but still, he was incredibly handsome, and he sings so well too. His voice is amazing, and the way he sings in completely different modes for every album and every song is really impressive – he’s also a singer I’ve personally learned a lot from too. I’ve spent the last few days reflecting on what it means to finally see Provo Canyon School shut down for good. ❤️‍🩹 For so many years, this felt impossible. There were moments when people told us to give up, said nothing would ever change, or that our voices didn’t matter. But this is proof that when you refuse to stop fighting for what you believe in, anything is possible. To every survivor who bravely shared their story, thank you. Your courage changed history. It was a dream come true tonight, thank you #OffKaiGen4!! 💙 I got to perform outdoors at MosoMatsuri in front of a huge crowd who screamed so loudly I could feel it in my bones all the way from Australia!! Tonight I even got the chance to have a whole mini concert afterparty!! The crowd stayed until midnight, and remained patient despite the TV breaking, the speaker breaking, and sat around in a big circle, craning their necks in to listen closely to the tiny laptop blast my voice out while I ironically sang GHOST by Suisei. The depressed girl who used to sing alone in the closet to the vast internet now had people jumping up and down, cheering her on halfway across the world. A whole group of grown adults linking arms and singing Country Roads together, surrounding a campfire made of orange UO penlights and a tiny laptop at midnight. I still honestly don't feel worthy of such tender, gentle care and patience, which is so overwhelmingly loving. But I will do my utmost best to be worthy of being you star your oshi!!!!!!!! Please continue watching over me!!!!!✨💫

There was some controversy in the Senate yesterday that resulted in my right to speak in the chamber being temporarily revoked by the Labor Government, with the support of the Greens. This happened due to comments I made during a debate where I criticised the Greens for their apologist stance toward Islamic extremist terrorism. As a consequence, I was unable to deliver a speech I had prepared, which called for an end to the excessive use of acknowledgments and welcomes to country. Fortunately, I have strong backup in the form of One Nation Senator Malcolm Roberts 🇦🇺 who was able to deliver the speech and instigate this debate on my behalf. Even when they attempt to silence one voice, they cannot silence all of us. The will of the people will always find a way to be heard. Here are the prepared remarks I had intended to deliver: I would like to congratulate the Australian people for their overwhelming rejection of the divisive voice to Parliament at the October referendum. However, it was more than a rejection of the voice. It was a rejection of the entire Uluru Statement – all 26 pages of it. It was a rejection of a treaty and truth-telling – or more accurately, a re-write of history with an eye on financial settlements funded by non-indigenous taxpayers. It was a rejection of identity politics, grievance politics and the activist cult of victimhood. And primarily, it was a rejection of racial division. And one of the most racially divisive features of modern discourse in Australia is welcome to country ceremonies, along with acknowledgements of country. Australians – including many indigenous people – are sick and tired of them. They are sick of being told Australia is not their country, which is what these things effectively do. Welcomes and acknowledgements deny the citizenship and sovereignty held equally by all Australians. They perpetuate the falsehood that prior to 1788, nations existed on this continent. They didn’t. This is a foreign notion, an activist device imported from Canada that does not reflect the reality of Australian history. I remind the Senate of the promise made by leading voice campaigner Marcia Langton who promised no more ‘welcomes to country’ if the voice was rejected. We can only hope this promise is lived up to. Federal taxpayers forked out at least 45,000 dollars for these rituals the previous financial year, although I understand the figure could be much higher as not every government department has come clean on what they spend. It’s not even an genuine pre-settlement ritual for most aborigines. It was invented in 1976 by Ernie Dingo and Richard Walley. I acknowledge Narungga elder Kerry White from South Australia, a great contributor to the ‘no’ campaign, who said these rituals are not even being used correctly. She said last year that it should be reserved for indigenous people welcoming other indigenous people to local country, and that its use by non-indigenous Australians was just virtue-signalling. She wasn’t wrong about the virtue-signalling, that’s for sure. Ms White said: “…they’ve taken our ceremonial process and demeaned it by throwing it out there every day in every aspect of what Australian people do. And I think that is culturally wrong.” She even said ‘welcomes to country’ were an attack on indigenous culture. I also acknowledge another indigenous leader of the ‘no’ campaign, Senator Naminjimpa Price, who said recently that ‘welcomes to country’ were “definitely divisive”. I’m confident I speak for the majority of Australians in saying I wish Professor Langton had included acknowledgements of country too. They’re recited at the beginning of every parliamentary sitting day, every council meeting, and every zoom meeting held by public servants. We hear them at the conclusion of every domestic flight – you can hear the groans in the cabin every time. They have effectively lost all meaning for their constant repetition. To foster national unity, and to help put an end to racial division in this country, it’s time to leave indigenous rituals to indigenous Australians. One Nation is supremely confident we speak for the majority of all Australians regardless of race when we call for an end to welcomes and acknowledgements of country. We know that for many, the promise of an end to them motivated their no vote at the referendum. We call on this Parliament, all other Australian parliaments, all government departments, and every local government in this nation, to stop signalling virtue you don’t possess and stop dividing this country by abusing these indigenous rituals. Australians don’t want them. Australians don’t want racial division, and they said that most emphatically on 14 October at the referendum. Let’s move forward together as one people, one nation under one flag.

There was some controversy in the Senate yesterday that resulted in my right to speak in the chamber being temporarily revoked by the Labor Government, with the support of the Greens. This happened due to comments I made during a debate where I criticised the Greens for their apologist stance toward Islamic extremist terrorism. As a consequence, I was unable to deliver a speech I had prepared, which called for an end to the excessive use of acknowledgments and welcomes to country. Fortunately, I have strong backup in the form of One Nation Senator Malcolm Roberts 🇦🇺 who was able to deliver the speech and instigate this debate on my behalf. Even when they attempt to silence one voice, they cannot silence all of us. The will of the people will always find a way to be heard. Here are the prepared remarks I had intended to deliver: I would like to congratulate the Australian people for their overwhelming rejection of the divisive voice to Parliament at the October referendum. However, it was more than a rejection of the voice. It was a rejection of the entire Uluru Statement – all 26 pages of it. It was a rejection of a treaty and truth-telling – or more accurately, a re-write of history with an eye on financial settlements funded by non-indigenous taxpayers. It was a rejection of identity politics, grievance politics and the activist cult of victimhood. And primarily, it was a rejection of racial division. And one of the most racially divisive features of modern discourse in Australia is welcome to country ceremonies, along with acknowledgements of country. Australians – including many indigenous people – are sick and tired of them. They are sick of being told Australia is not their country, which is what these things effectively do. Welcomes and acknowledgements deny the citizenship and sovereignty held equally by all Australians. They perpetuate the falsehood that prior to 1788, nations existed on this continent. They didn’t. This is a foreign notion, an activist device imported from Canada that does not reflect the reality of Australian history. I remind the Senate of the promise made by leading voice campaigner Marcia Langton who promised no more ‘welcomes to country’ if the voice was rejected. We can only hope this promise is lived up to. Federal taxpayers forked out at least 45,000 dollars for these rituals the previous financial year, although I understand the figure could be much higher as not every government department has come clean on what they spend. It’s not even an genuine pre-settlement ritual for most aborigines. It was invented in 1976 by Ernie Dingo and Richard Walley. I acknowledge Narungga elder Kerry White from South Australia, a great contributor to the ‘no’ campaign, who said these rituals are not even being used correctly. She said last year that it should be reserved for indigenous people welcoming other indigenous people to local country, and that its use by non-indigenous Australians was just virtue-signalling. She wasn’t wrong about the virtue-signalling, that’s for sure. Ms White said: “…they’ve taken our ceremonial process and demeaned it by throwing it out there every day in every aspect of what Australian people do. And I think that is culturally wrong.” She even said ‘welcomes to country’ were an attack on indigenous culture. I also acknowledge another indigenous leader of the ‘no’ campaign, Senator Naminjimpa Price, who said recently that ‘welcomes to country’ were “definitely divisive”. I’m confident I speak for the majority of Australians in saying I wish Professor Langton had included acknowledgements of country too. They’re recited at the beginning of every parliamentary sitting day, every council meeting, and every zoom meeting held by public servants. We hear them at the conclusion of every domestic flight – you can hear the groans in the cabin every time. They have effectively lost all meaning for their constant repetition. To foster national unity, and to help put an end to racial division in this country, it’s time to leave indigenous rituals to indigenous Australians. One Nation is supremely confident we speak for the majority of all Australians regardless of race when we call for an end to welcomes and acknowledgements of country. We know that for many, the promise of an end to them motivated their no vote at the referendum. We call on this Parliament, all other Australian parliaments, all government departments, and every local government in this nation, to stop signalling virtue you don’t possess and stop dividing this country by abusing these indigenous rituals.
