Are the two (discipline vs obsession) really mutually exclusive, though?

Good point. But discipline and obsession both have their roles. For someone who is not obsessed with something but that thing is important for them or not-an-option then they have to use discipline.

Self-discipline is a conscious choice. It's the act of pushing yourself to do the hard work when you don't feel like it, for the sake of a long-term goal. It's a tool you control. Obsession is an unconscious drive. It's the feeling of being pulled by a deep-seated desire or idea that you can't stop thinking about. It's a force that often controls you.

A lot of people don’t “find their lane” because they are too afraid to step out of the one someone else built for them.

This hits deep. Knowing when to grind and when to focus is key.

100% this. Pushing yourself to do things other ppl tell you is much harder than doing what *you* want. When my clients get clarity about their goals, sticking to any routine becomes ‘duh, of course’. Ppl underestimate the internal alignment.
