Based on this video, how would you have your upper endoscopy?

@rushnaa9 Not for her though - her mascara is perfectly intact 😅

I am a mom of four kids. My every-other-year endo and colonoscopy for my Crohn’s disease is the only nap I ever get. Don’t you dare take that away from me.

One of the best reviews about colonoscopy that I’ve seen 😅😂

Ok, it CAN be done… the question is: WHY?

To educate her patients that endoscopy can be well tolerated and safe even without sedation. Many people are concerned about the gag reflex but this can be suppressed with pharyngeal anaesthesia (eg xylocaine spray).

Wow! I had a pt once, a very busy businessman who somehow had missed that he’d have anesthesia for EGD. He asked for a few moments of silence, went deep into meditation & then lifted 1 finger to indicate we could proceed. It was incredible. But this video takes the cake

Over in the UK, rightly or wrongly, a lot of our procedures are done without sedation. With transnasal endoscopy (with these slim scopes), many UK services are planning on going completely sedation-free
