Jeffries: Donald Trump is going to have to demonstrate to the American people—and to us in Congress—that there was an imminent threat that justified his actions. It’s hard to imagine he has the ability to actually prove that, because we’ve seen no evidence to justify this type of offensive strike. The problem is, there also doesn’t seem to be a plan for how to avoid the kind of escalation that could drag America into another potentially disastrous Middle Eastern war—one that the overwhelming majority of the American people want no part of at this moment.

A Memorandum of Understanding with the U.S. has yet to be signed, changes are still possible. The agreement consists of two stages. Parsi: There is no doubt that we have now, after 20 years of hearing from the hawks, that the only solution is to go to war, we tried it. One third of the U.S. Navy was there in the region. This was not a small operation. This was a major operation short of an actual invasion, and it failed. There is just no doubt that the military operation was not a success. And hopefully, at a minimum, we will not be having that debate again. It has now been settled. It's no longer a theoretical or academic topic. It has been tried, proven to be a failure.

The conflict in Iran is about to be the least debated prolonged foreign war in American History. With this attack on Iran, the President ignored the will of the American people and still has not presented a coherent plan for the day after. I am voting for the bipartisan War Powers Resolution this week that mandates explanation and accountability from this Administration, debate and deliberation from Congress, and the consensus of the governed.
