This is actually an amazing highlight from Joe Rogan’s recent interview with Jonathan Haidt. It goes to show the importance and impact of initial news that turns out to be fake news. The initial impression is the one that lasts, and the justification to cling to the initial interpretation survives at all costs. Here, Rogan plays for Haidt what turns out to be an edited clip of trump’s “bloodbath” comment. In this edited clip, it sounds bad. Haidt comes to a conclusion based on this erroneous piece of evidence. Having formed that initial reaction, despite the fact that they realize it was an edited clip and not the original statement, it is virtually impossible for Haidt backtrack on that original impression. This is exactly how fake news works.
