And your actions of allowing unfettered immigrant and undocumented and illegal immigrants is a disgrace to the people who lost their lives on that day. Twenty-five years later, Deputy Chief Renae Mascol returned to the World Trade Center site for the first time since September 11, 2001. That morning, Chief Mascol and her EMS partner crossed the Brooklyn Bridge and responded to Ground Zero. This summer, for the first time, she returned to the 9/11 Memorial & Museum and stood before the names of those who were killed on September 11th and in the years since. For Chief Mascol, the memories are still vivid. "We can't let people forget," she said. "So many people gave their lives on that day. So many people are still dying." We will Never Forget.

We also honor the generations of American servicemen and women who answered our nation’s call in the days, months, and years that followed, and all those who continue to stand watch in defense of our freedom. On September 11, 2001, I was a cadet at West Point, watching the attacks unfold and realizing that the world we were preparing to enter had changed forever. We knew that our nation was at war, and that the oath we had taken would soon carry a very different weight. Twenty-five years later, I still carry the lessons of that day with me: The fragility of freedom. The extraordinary courage of ordinary Americans. The annual event is held in memory of FDNY Firefighter Stephen Siller and his final steps from the foot of the Battery Tunnel to the Twin Towers and pays homage to all those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.
