What a sweet memory! ♥️

The only somebody could have caught Willie well he was on the side line Darrell Green

Believe Jeff Hayes got hurt on this play, which led to Theismann becoming Washington's emergency punter

I was at this game. Their kicker was injured on the return, he was also their punter. Joe Theisman was their backup punter. Redskins went 3-and-out, Theisman shanked his punt for one yard. Bears scored, 14-10, on the way to 45-10.

I remember this game. Coach Gibbs said afterwards that being up 10-0 really isn’t much and shouldn’t be looked at as if you have a commanding lead…or something to that effect iirc.

Just going to say that it was most likely against the Redskins. This was also the game with Joe Theismann’s 1-yard punt.

There's fast, then there's amazing-athlete fast, & THEN there's NFL-fast. Willie Gault was NFL-Olympian fast! Always tell ppl I get you think a QB can't run or the big guys are slow. But in real world terms, they'll beat a Joe Shmo like a drum. 😄

Scored 31 in the quarter

Tim Ryan never got much hype, but he was a fantastic play by play guy for CBS. This is actually a higher level game than I remember him getting.

The only one of his career, surprisingly!

Speed for days!

I remember that. The Redskins just scored to go up 10-0 & the fans were booing LOUDLY.........but not for long!!🏈🐻🤣

Starting guard on kick return, don’t see that anymore
