But her neighbor had made it clear before: “Don’t park in front of my house.” This time, instead of leaving a note or having a conversation, the neighbor, let’s call her Karen, got into her own SUV and slowly pushed the parked SUV forward with her bumper, trying to force it out of “her” spot. The noise brought the owner running outside, furious and ready to argue as the two SUVs sat bumper-to-bumper in the middle of the street. We all want convenience, but entitlement can turn a simple parking issue into property damage and possibly a police report. Some battles just aren’t worth the drama. Since when does a public street become private property just because it’s in front of your house?

You never really know if it was a real trap or just her coke-addled brain playing tricks on her. One of the brilliant things about it is the sound design. Scorsese shot the scene right under the elevated subway line at Smith & 9th in Brooklyn. As Karen walks out onto that empty street, you hear the train rumbling overhead, subtly raising the tension in a way no score could. Scorsese pulls you right into her headspace by alternating between three shots: a close-up of her walking down the street, her point of view searching for the store, and her point of view looking back at Jimmy - immersing you in her experience, capturing her rising fear and growing distrust of Jimmy with every cut. And the moment she finally looks into the store and sees the men waiting for her, you can faintly hear one of them say "block the windows," followed by a hushed "shh" as they spot her. It's a moment of real fear and danger. Or is it all in her head? As she backs away and heads for her car, Scorsese shoots her with a rising crane shot revealing a "DON'T WALK" sign and a "ONE WAY" arrow pointing toward the storefront - perhaps an omen that if she'd gone that way, she never would have come back out alive.

Lisa came with her friends (team), and a group of puppies kept messing with her biting the tripod, her legs, bumping into her phone, and even jumping onto her lap (Siberians + Golden Retrievers). It was total chaos. Yoga studio staff were worried she might get hurt, but Lisa was really sweet and down to earth. She didn’t mind at all and even seemed to enjoy letting the puppies play with her. And in real life, she’s incredibly beautiful. 🔗 LLOUD #LISA
