Why wasn’t the criminal justice system activated as it would be for any other individual? Immunity for the Hon'ble President and Governor exists only while in office. This issue strikes at the heart of the institutions that define our #democracy. People are waiting with bated breath—the money trail, its source, its purpose—did it pollute the judicial system? If these individuals really were ‘enemy combatants,’ legally so, then you would have no reason nor would you have any incentive to repatriate them. You’d want to bring them back and put them through the court system here in the United States and have due process visited upon them if they are in fact enemy combatants. They didn’t do that — sort of makes me wonder whether they think they have much of a case, whether they don’t want this to happen inside the U.S. court system.”
