Seriously?! 🤦♂️ Why can’t folks just train keepers based on what ACTUALLY happens in matches?

Probably because you can’t gain Instagram followers without something resembling the hybrid of a magic show & cirque de soleil

Uh huh More interested in the gram than actually creating better players

It’s not too different from the drill where the keeper faces his own goal, the shot is taken at the same time as the keeper is told “turn”. It mimics being unsighted for late reaction out of position instincts. The hat is a bit silly. You could just have him close/open his eyes

Never seen this one.

Probably a good reason

Spot on mate. Too much faff, not enough real match work. That's how kids actually learn at our sessions.

This is the biggest gap in youth goalkeeper development right now. Too many GK trainers build sessions around what looks impressive on Instagram instead of what actually prepares keepers for the chaos of a real match. Positioning, decision-making, and reading the play will always matter more than acrobatic highlight drills. The best keepers don't train for the camera, they train for the game.

Wtf

It doesn't look good on social media and get engagement.

Unsighted quick reactions are part of the game, how do you simulate it if not like this? Whilst not orthodox there is an idea in there somewhere 😂

Use mannequins. The keeper pulling the string Boxes, I’ve seen benches, be creative but above all, keep it as realistic as possible! Not hard to figure out ways to “unsight” a keeper while keeping it realistic

Don, he’s found a way to do it that suits him, it’s intuitive, it’s different and clearly it works well. Taking away his senses will improve his instinctive movements. If you don’t like the technique nobody is asking you to use it

Hey Cal, I was answering your question. You asked the question “how to simulate if not like this” I gave multiple solutions that are more useful and realistic

Because how could they justify their employment if you’re just doing things you can do in the backyard with your friends?

I helped at Eureka College last year. Came in a month into the season. Hired to focus on GKs. My first session, I ran my typical warmup (which is basic) and the girls said, “Jeez, now I have a pump going.” Most coaches seem to focus on appearance over effectiveness.

Oh the “Instagramification”😉 of all things training/coaching😩 Whatever happened to the classic 2-3 keepers &/or goalie coach, working each other. Rotating who’s in goal & who’s pinging shots, crosses & throws at him; all facets of their game were worked & no gimmicks

They’re all straight at him

Arsenal attacking corner routine, Gabriel puts hat on GK then runs around the back! Just checking if anyone will notice?? PGMOL won’t see this, so I think it will work!

🤣

Nah, this has gone too far @WillEbbrell 😂

This has to be a joke ?

Maybe it was an April fools joke and I missed it?

👀

because soccer “training” is all useless nonsense

Working on his reflexes, very good idea and it can be done with only 3 people, not a full squad

Oh dear

What do you reckon @Greeney1987?

@browneyib new one for you sannn
@JALV82BAGE

This guy has a lot of content of this type. Seems the likes and visibility in social media works for him... quite sad.

Well it’s clearly reaction training, a bit gimmicky but I don’t see why it wouldn’t be effective

I watched this last night on a different platform & thought the exact same 🙈🙈🤯⚽️

This is a bit weird and unorthodox, but the principle isn't actually horrible. It's just probably not necessary or worth the set up. You can rig something to simulate seeing a shot late with much less effort.

Its reactions training. Getting them ready for anything. Varied training improves reaction speed for the normal actions

@lauriewalker89

Might be better teaching them how to catch a ball under pressure.

I'm sure this is part of the training, not all of it. I think he is building good muscle memory here. I'd just hate for the person pulling the beanie cap to not get distracted by a mosquito landing on his nose at the wrong time. LOL.

Cos you wouldn’t share it, remember, it’s all about you

This was a trend back in 2019 aswell
