Today I came across the announcement of #AkshayKumar’s next film #Haiwaan. Honestly, I’ve always been against remakes. But this time, his choice has genuinely surprised me. In Haiwaan, Akshay is reportedly playing a very psychotic character.. possibly the villain. But personally, I hope he plays the protagonist: a visually impaired man, falsely accused, hunted by the law, and trapped in a world filled with darkness, doubt, and madness. That kind of role has depth, danger, and emotional weight The premise itself sounds intense and engaging. And on top of that, the film is being directed by none other than #Priyadarshan. So, if Akshay takes on this kind of performance under a director like him, that’s already 75% success in my book. But here’s the bittersweet part.. Haiwaan is reportedly a remake of the Malayalam thriller #Oppam. And that automatically deducts 25% marks in my mind.. purely because of the "remake" tag. But.. Still, let’s be fair.. this isn’t anything new for Priyadarshan. He’s always remade his #Malayalam originals into Hindi, and most of them have become #Bollywood classics.. whether it's #HeraPheri, #ChupChupKe, or #BhoolBhulaiyaa. Plus, Priyadarshan is already collaborating with Akshay on original scripts like #BhootBungla and #HeraPheri3, which makes this team-up feel like a continuation of a tried-and-tested partnership. And if we talk about remakes.. films like #Drishyam have done incredibly well post-pandemic. #Oppam, in my view, has that same kind of potential.. but only if Akshay plays the lead hero, not a twisted antagonist. And... what if #SaifAliKhan plays the villain? He’s already proven his strength in negative roles through #Omkara and #Tanhaji. That could elevate the film even more. Its tone must remain dark, emotionally charged, and psychologically gripping. No compromises. Let’s see how well #Haiwaan performs when it finally hits the screens.. by then, it will also be interesting to see how the audience's perception toward #remake films evolves.. especially after a recent remake like #SitareZameenPar received a mixed but partially warm reception. Meanwhile, I imagined this concept so vividly, I even ended up designing two posters based on it! What do you think about Akshay Kumar’s choice for this film?
