Settle this debate: greatest song ever written?

I love this song so much. It's a particular time/place/person in my mind, but it brings tears to my eyes when he gets to the"hear that foghorn blow" part...

hadn’t said anything at all about mama, or trains, or trucks, or prison, or gettin’ drunk

This is not even Van Morrison's greatest song...🤨

Amazing Grace

Marvin Gaye, What's Going On.

I think Tupello Honey is better.

I don't think there is one greatest song other than your greatest song, but this one is a timeless classic.

Ya no. Van Morrison was a great storyteller, no question, but was very "status quo" on musical compilation (the music was written to sell, and few cared about the story within the lyrics.) Van Morrison was a sellout. Contrast with Led Zeppelin's Kashmir. Fantastic storytelling, unique vocals, cutting edge music compilation. Written for passion, not profit.

The greatest song ever written, US National Anthem.

It’s definitely beautiful. Another contender for the best of all time is “If You Could Read My Mind” by Gordon Lightfoot.

Mozart: Symphony No. 40 in G Major, K550

Great song but this could also be a contender;

@thetoyman1 So many options but this Kris Kristofferson song performed by the late great Raul Malo is fantastic

Pink Floyd - Time

Free Bird....🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

@WOWjustwow96196 Definitely one of them.

Absolutely! I watched Van sing it live.

I keep going back to ‘Dancing in the Moonlight’ by King Harvest.

Greatest? I've never heard this song before. It's alright, I guess, but I wouldn't call it the Greatest song ever written.

@its_The_Dr 10 yrs ago when I lived in a neighborhood outside Fort Worth TX-Van Morrison quietly lived with my neighbor(his girlfriend).

And I wanna rock your gypsy soul Just like way back in the days of old Then magnificently we will float Into the mystic 🎶🎙️ Van the Man. I was known back in the day as GypsyBlu because of this song.

This isn't even the greatest song ever written by Van Morrison...

It's hard to just pinpoint one .... there are so many wonderful songs...this one comes to mind first though... Freddie was a brilliantly gifted and talented musician...

I will go with Bobby

🎵Can't say "THE greatest," although it IS awesome. There are simply too many other songs that are equally great, to choose just one. We're so fortunate that our world is full of amazing, awesome music🎶

Hotel California

Alice's Restaurant ... with full orchestration and five part harmony OH ! and twenty seven eight-by-ten colour glossy pictures with circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one. Almost forgot those !

What happens when you play a Country Western song backwards? You get your girl back, your truck back, your dog back…

The Righteous Brothers Unchained Melody

May I humbly submit…
