Several population studies have found that birth control pills can increase the risk for depression and anxiety. I want to correct what I said at the end: the actual study looked at half a million 15-year-old women and found that those taking birth control were twice as likely to... show more

Ok but why are 15-year old girls (not "women") on birth control in the first place, and is there consideration and control for that? Are they experiencing PCOS? Acne? Sexually active? 15 is young!

I had to start taking the pill when I was 11 because my bleeding wouldn’t stop. Within a year I was put on antidepressants, which made things far worse, and at such a confusing time. I stopped both before high school and did so much better. This study doesn’t surprise me at all.

Let all in creation call Yahweh the author of confusion before ALL ANY DONE ON ELISE OYINKROMEINEIFA, HER PREGNANCY N BABIES AS SHE SLEEPS MEAN ANYTHING IN ALL REALMS, UNDOES ANY EVEN 0.1% AND BE OF EFFECT EVEN 0.1% ever in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth u900gtefsfbaiCnYH

I was warned not to take it decades ago for that very reason.

This is interesting - hormones certainly play a role in emotions. I wonder if those individuals who have it prescribed for medical needs, might have struggled no matter. A lot of confounds. But we also know birth control has a definite impact on emotional range, etc.

It also makes it a gateway to antidepressants an even more problems.

I felt complete anhedonia on the pill. A terrible way to feel. I will never take synthetic hormones again

Why the double standards? Is it valid to use causal language when referring to observational associations (as you are here) or invalid to do so (as you claim in your earlier tweet?).

Thank you. Too few know the risks. BC pills led to my hormone imbalance / infertility and autoimmune disease. Cipro and (failed) ivf treatments broke my biome and mitochondria. Now trapped in the prison of #mecfs. Try a collab with @ChanatLucine for the full scoop on the pill.

Progesterone, not synthetic “progestins” is an important modulator of GABA. Additionally, progesterone is broken down enzymatically to allopregnanolone very important for the brain, and it also raises BDNF. You might be aware there is an allopregnanolone based medication for post partum DEPRESSION.
