CTV doesn’t ask any questions about why Shaun Chen stepped down. They are taking Chen’s words at face value. Yet CTV didn’t dig into why Chen travelled twice to China this year. It would certainly raise questions if you can travel to China no problem why is traveling to Ottawa a problem? Also Chen being in China around the time the Chinese/Canadian Spy was being arrested raises concerns. We have a lack of journalism in this country..

Where is outgoing Toronto Liberal MP Shaun Chen? We visited Shaun Chen's constituency office. It was a surreal experience… Where oh where is Shaun Chen? Is he residing in Canada or China or Parts Unknown? The Scarborough North MP recently announced his resignation from the House of Commons. The reason: health issues. You see, due to a car accident that he endured, making regular trips to Ottawa was too difficult for him. All of which is fascinating given that Chen made a trip to China following that aforementioned accident. How is it that a five-hour drive down Hwy. 401 is too arduous but a 15-hour overseas flight is easy-peasy? It should be noted that Chen is hardly a workaholic when it comes to representing his riding. Parliamentary records indicate that Chen spoke in the House only once over the past year. Must be nice. Meanwhile, our friend, commentator Andy Lee, has documented WeChat posts and videos showing that Chen apparently travelled to China at least twice after the accident. But why? And here’s what’s really eyebrow-raising: Lee notes that Chen appeared in videos alongside broadcasters who are allegedly connected to the Chinese Communist Party’s Central Propaganda Department. If that’s not a red flag then what is? And the question arises: who organized and financed the delegation? And what exactly was Chen’s role? We know there has been Chinese foreign interference in Canadian politics in the past. Is Chen taking part in such shenanigans? And really, where do his allegiances lie – Canada or China? Don’t expect the mainstream media to ask these tough questions. In fact, the opposite is true: the Media Party is defending Chen! Check out the headline of a recent CTV story: “The smearing of a departing Liberal MP reveals a toxic political playbook”. Translation: the so-called “smearing” of Chen is due to Conservatives being racist. Unbelievable… In any event, we recently visited his constituency office to hopefully scrum this elusive person, who is less a Member of Parliament and more of an international man of mystery. It was surreal. First of all, we arrived at the same time a transport truck was making a huge delivery to Chen. What was the cargo? Thousands of face masks! Golly, is Chen visiting the Wuhan Institute of Virology when’s he hobnobbing around China these days? Does he have inside information that “Covid-27” is inevitable? If that’s the case he’ll make out like a bandit with his face mask inventory! Also, a staffer briefly vacated the office. His purpose? To photograph the licence plate of our vehicle. Why would that be? Great question. When we sought an explanation the office door was slammed shut. Then a man who would not identify himself demanded we leave the plaza. He said he planned to call the police. We don’t know if he placed a call to 911, but cops never showed up. Maybe because we weren’t breaking the law? (Well, not Canadian law at least…) In the meantime, Chen remains AWOL. Which makes us ponder: what the hell is this guy up to?

Teaching robots from human video is an important part of overcoming the “data gap” in robotics, but many of the details still need to be worked out. Homanga Bharadhwaj tells us about two recent research papers, Gen2Act and Spider, which go over different aspects of the problem: Gen2Act uses generative video models to create a reference of how a task should be performed given a language prompt; then, it uses a multi-purpose policy that can “translate” from human video to robot motion. However, Gen2Act has its limitations, in particular when it comes to dexterous, contact-rich tasks. That’s where SPIDER comes in: it uses human data together with simulation to train policies across many different humanoid hands and datasets.
