SFX supervisor John Richardson designed The Omen's decapitation scene. Months later, on Friday the 13th, he was in a car crash while working on A Bridge Too Far. His girlfriend, Liz Moore, was decapitated—just like his film scene—near a sign for Ommen reading “66.6 km”.

Actor Gregory Peck and screenwriter David Seltzer were on separate planes to London when both aircraft were struck by lightning. Producer Mace Neufeld later experienced a similar strike on his flight to the shoot. While in Rome, producer Harvey Bernhard narrowly avoided a lightning strike that hit a gate near where he was standing. A hotel where director Richard Donner was staying was bombed by the IRA. Two teens have died after a car plunged from a bridge over the M1 and hit a minibus below near junction 20 The crash happened at about 1.30pm on Friday when the blue car left Gilmorton Lane and collided with the southbound white Fiat Ducato minibus. The two teenagers in the car died at the scene. Four people in the minibus were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver was later discharged and three women remain in hospital. The M1 was closed in both directions for nearly 10 hours while forensic work and an accident investigation took place.

In this scene in "Planes, Trains & Automobiles" (1987) since he was not satisfied with the Owen scene introductions after several takes, he privately instructed Dylan Baker (Owen) to wipe spit in his right hand just before shaking hands with Neil Page. Steve Martin was not expecting this, thus his disgusted reaction to shaking Baker's saliva slathered hand. The film crew reportedly exploded in laughter as Martin ran off to wash his hands immediately following the encounter. Hughes got the reaction he needed and the footage was kept in the film.
