This is what I’m talking about. This isn’t to highlight Bentancur. It’s how 90% of teams and players behave for I’d say 70% of the game. But what are we trying to achieve here? The best thing that can happen from any phase of play, is to score a goal. So that’s the overall objective. To do that, the ball at some stage has to go behind every single opposition player and space has to be exploited whether it’s big or small. But Bentancur here is waiting. Waiting for players to move. Waiting for opposition to move. But why would Newcastle move? They don’t need to break from their shape. But imagine what would happen if Bentancur travelled with the ball into those open spaces. Newcastle and spurs players aren’t just going to watch, it’s going to instigate a chain reaction of movement from both sides. And that will in turn break up shapes which creates gaps. Then it’s if you are confident and able to exploit. But just waiting doesn’t achieve it. Imagine the disruption you will cause if both the ball player, and off ball players look to provoke the opposition as opposed to rigidly stand in shape. It’s just logical. If you stay still. Why does the opposition need to move? So what pictures are changing? What gaps are you opening? What gaps are you exploiting? So how do you expect to score when to score a goal, gaps have to be exploited? It’s why when people say “it’s harder in modern football, there’s less space”. No there isn’t. There’s always space. You’re just seeing players less willing to provoke it and attack it.

This is what the future of football will look like, at least in the teams I coach. A mix of positional players- who give the team depth & support under the ball and functional players who are free to migrate to the ball zone. Moving actions aren’t exclusive to functional players

Goal or No Goal The rule👇 👉 That is NOT a goal. It’s an offence for preventing the goalkeeper from releasing the ball, and play should be stopped. The restart would be a free kick to the goalkeeper’s team. When would it be a goal? •If the goalkeeper completely released the ball, •the ball was clearly free in the air, •and the striker then kicked it and scored, 👉 That IS a valid goal. Key takeaway (simple version): •Ball still under keeper’s control → no goal •Ball fully released and free → goal

Don’t be like this player. So many players still don’t use boost efficiently, even though boost management is the most important skill in the game. A good guideline is to save boost for when you’re making a play on the ball and use your movement to get to the ball. Here is a player who uses all of his boost to chase the ball, and when he ends up low on boost, he keeps chasing anyway. This leads to him bumping his teammate and giving up an easy goal.

This is the best angle I’ve seen. The picture of the yellow ball in the second tweet shows what is considered to be in-play - it only needs to be touching the line. To have a goal overturned by VAR on this basis is incredible.

Don't Play Out - Too Risky Constantly see them same rhetoric for teams that "Build from the Back" & use their GK + CBs to Progress the Ball: - Too Risky - Get it away - Put in the Oppositions Half then play Nobody ever pulls up how many times the ball often comes straight back in your half in a dangerous area for the opponent. 20:05 - We have safe possession at a Goal-Kick 20:17 - Conceded Freekick 21:08 - Czech score from that Freekick Absolutely criminal at Youth Level where the pressure is lesser to be even be allowing this 🤮
