I don’t think she’s up there with the greats vocally. She can technically sing and gets the right music to compliment her voice but I don’t consider her a strong sounding vocalist. Unpopular opinion I feel she’s everyone’s sweetheart so she gets boosted more for her singing.

and her ear makes her a master in layering. the way she stacks vocals is so efficient that it scares me. it can take years of practice to understand your voice in a way that you can connect every nuance of it and Brandy does it so effortlessly. she's superhuman, literally.

I just went to see her in concert 🥰 I remember Brandy herself was very self conscious about her singing voice. It's why her "Moesha" character couldn't sing. I think it had to do with the era she came up in. Where great vocals = power vocals.

Part 1) Singer = tone + notes. You have to be born w/ vocal folds that produce a tone. The avg singer has 2 octaves (16 notes). Brandy can sing. She is a contralto w/ 2 octaves. Avg voice. She's good at runs w/in her range & other embellishments. She has a soft pretty tone.
