@mxnightingale23 Except Bruno was never sold as a lyricist. Taylor built her name on songwriting, so that's what gets judged. The stories haven't grown, & neither has the writing, & catchy production doesn’t hide that. She wrote about love with more depth on folklore than she does now.

She said it all. I don’t love showgirl personally but I wasn’t bitterly disappointed by that because I’ve known for years I don’t like max and shellbacks production so I never expected to. I am able to acknowledge I don’t love an album personally without being absolutely delusional about it. Just because I don’t like it doesn’t make it ‘objectively shitty’, just as much as me loving TTPD didn’t make everyone who (in good faith) disliked it, wrong I just wish people could be just be like, a shred more mature about this kinda thing. I know art can be polarizing. But she has withstood criticism for not being universal enough her entire career, while the numbers show she is one of the most universal artists to do it. It is because they decided they don’t like HER. Her music can not possibly win them over becausr it isn’t truly about that. If even a large portion of her fans make that the prerequisite, that she has failed if EVERYONE doesn’t love everything does, she can never, ever win. She said before in response to all the hate ‘I’m the problem it’s me’ - but is she? The problem? I genuinely think the very obvious irony is, she is not. No one else is ever gonna take accountability so, from just abject exhaustion of it she said, fine. Yeah, I’m the problem okay? It’s me. Just to finally end this endless fucking argument. I don't think anyone has an issue with her doing pop. The issue is the decline in her songwriting overall. She is considered one of the greatest songwriters ever and she is currently writing trite, flat songs.

Swifties’ argument: “taylor just wants to have fun by making objectively shitty music. She is doing it on purpose”. They will look left and right for excuses rather than critique her so she can make a better music next time.

Also the idea that Taylor didn't push herself when TLOAS is by far her best vocal delivery. She went from pop to pop-rock influences to r&b to pop again and she sounded great in all of them + every song had its own distinct sound which was the main complaint ppl had about TTPD.

This is a good take. Taylor has definitely given us different eras. I just think she’s happy and wanted to make upbeat music because she’s in that space. The songwriting could be better but we know she’s a songwriter so obviously this is what she wanted to give us.
