Lived in Brooklyn almost 40 years. Must be 60% Caribbean, maybe more. They NEVER go back for good. Maybe 10% retire. I used to always hear how great whatever island is….blah,blah. I’m old enough to recognize guys who used to say when I retire I’m going back to… They didn’t. Brooklyn is filled with Caribbean senior citizens who never go back. They visit but don’t go back home. The status is living “overseas”. The status is to visit, not return. Why return to a place most want to get out of? I used to ask… “how come you don’t go back to (Haiti, Jamaica, T&T, Barbados, St. Lucia, Guyana, Panama) it’s January, -3 and snowing. I thought you hated cold and snow”? The Answer: 1. I’m going back in a few years. I don’t like this place. 2. I’m building a home, in so and so bay.. it’s taking forever for the workers to finish. 3. I have to get my paperwork in order. 4. In a year or two. Just admit you love the United States.
