Nope. Thats called entitlement and lack of financial education. As well as blatant disrespect for both of you. Good luck with that.

I agree teenagers have lost their minds but the reality is that in 2025 $50 is most certainly not enough for food AND fun AND souvenirs. I hate to admit it but mommy needs to open the purse if sheโ€™s going to let her teenager go away for a 4 day (!!) birthday trip.

And yet you still allow it. Turn the card off and say now you have to use the cash. Problem solved lesson learned

Mistake number one, not explaining exactly how to use the money. Mistake number two, giving a teenager a credit card that you have to pay for.

$200 for 4 days where you will have to dine out isn't enough.

I donโ€™t know you, so this post isnโ€™t directed to you. I raised my girls in the country, drove them to all their friends houses. At 15 they both got jobs, 20 min away, we drove them back n forth. At 16 they had enough $ to buy Sunfires, cheap to fix and insure. They were sick of us driving them around. Make kids work for their money, then help them with the extras. Worked for me!

Our kids have had starter bank cards tied to our accounts since they were 13. They donโ€™t get our credit cards. Whatever is in their โ€œto spendโ€ account is all they get at any given time. Youโ€™re giving your kids a mixed message and confusing them by giving them access to your credit cards AND cash. Thatโ€™s on you, parents.
