Went outside for a walk an hour ago and saw this cute dog running down the road in distress. No collar. No identification. Scared as hell and shaking. Honestly, it looks like an abused dog. I chased her out of the road, she tried to bite me and wouldn’t let me put a leash on her for like 30 min, but now she’s calming down and she’s inside my place (hope she doesn’t have fleas…oh well!) Going to try to find her a home and get her some medical attention. Poor thing. She looks so scared. One thing you should all know about me is that I am a total sucker for stray dogs. It’s over 33 Celsius / 92 Fahrenheit at the moment in Thailand which makes it unbearable for some of the street dogs with long hair. I spotted this old girl a few days ago in a different area to where I normally feed and I could see she was in agony. Just moving 10-20 yards was painful for her. As well as the overgrown fur it was mixed in with sharp pines and big matted clumps on her ears and right into her mouth. As well as that as we started to shave her we could see 100s of ticks and fleas. The amount of pain this girl must have been in is hard to imagine. It took about 2 hours to clean her up and hand pick ever tick out of her. She also got a full health check up and a lovely little bandana to send her on her way back to the safe place where she lives. We do lots of bigger way more impactful stuff than this with dogs at scale but sometimes just changing the world for one dog makes all the difference. It feels just as nice for us seeing the dog pain free as it does for the dog. I can only imagine how nice she feels tonight. Just this morning she was invisible to the world and miserable but tonight she’ll sleep well 🥰🙏

When I spotted her this morning she had given up and I had to lift her off her dangerous position with a kind Thai lady. You could quickly see that this was more serious than just an overfed dog. She’s losing all her fur and it’ll be gone in a week or two. She is riddled with parasites and she is 43kg / 90 Lbs when she should be half that at the very most. I let her when I was dropping little Penny into Soi Dog Foundation for her own operation. I instantly just said to myself I have to help find this girl a home. She was sliced across the legs so badly that she nearly died but the wonderful vets saved her by amputating the 2 front legs. I didn’t want to show the footage of her suffering and just instead focus on the positive. She should hate humans and be aggressive and have turned into her shell but she is the friendliest and most fun loving dog you will ever meet. Time spent in her company was an absolute joy. I left absolutely buzzing just being in her company. One of those sorts of dogs. She is very mobile on her own and has no issues with toilets or anything. Something has to change. After operating all day and doing two DIEP flap cases, I saw a woman who had driven hours across Texas to get help. She has a history of breast cancer, had implant reconstruction, and had radiation on one side. And we know this, radiation and implants don’t mix. She developed signs of infection. Her incisions opened, fluid was draining, and she went to an ER and even called her plastic surgeon for help. The surgeon who initially performed her reconstruction told her, “I don’t take your insurance anymore.” She continued working and looking for help while the infection got worse. My neighbor always walks the dog at all hours of the day, rain or shine. She has a huge dog she can’t control, it actually walks her most of the time. This guy here has no excuse letting his dog on a leash get away, that thing is tiny. Yet he thinks it’s the man’s fault that his dog got nudged. What would you do if your neighbors dog got loose and they blamed your dog reacting to it, he needs to get his dog under control and get a life. Anyways, the neighbor with the big dog was walking her dog and it got away from her and ran into the street. Another neighbor was coming home from work and didn’t have time to react to it, she ended up hitting the dog causing a good amount of damage to her car and scuffing up the dog pretty good. The lady walking her dog had a fit of course and blamed the neighbor for hitting her dog. The neighbor retorted that she wouldn’t have hit it if the lady had it under control and isn’t run into the street. The lady ended up calling the cops, the cops came and cleared the neighbor of wrong doing. There were plenty of witnesses that saw it and we all see the dog pulling her all the time anyways. After the accident we didn’t see the lady walking her dog much anymore, her oldest son would do it most of the time to his annoyance but it was a better thing, he could control it where as his mother could not. I didn’t want to involve myself in their argument but I did tell the lady it was her fault, and that she needs to pay for the other neighbors car. Up until that point she was refusing to cooperate much. I never did ask if she paid but I have a feeling she did, the neighbor can be quite convincing when she needs to be.

After bringing her to the vet, we got the call that she wouldn't live to see the next morning and at best, we had hours. There was so much pressure to determine how we would spend these last hours. Perry's Steak House in Short Pump, Virginia invited Emmie to dinner for her last meal and an incredible experience. She had a line of people to pet her and love on her from employees to strangers and even the head chef. She ate the best food one could eat like steak, her very own custom cake, a bone and even chocolate that was flombayed in front of her. She had her own sparkling water, server and a beautiful spot by the fire. She enjoyed a stunning sunset, a brand new bed and blanket that they allowed us to bring in. She had an honor walk through the restaurant. The last time she walked on this earth. This was beyond what we ever could have imagined. The reservation was even under her name. Instead of tears, staring at her just waiting for her to pass, her last hours were spent happy, joyful and with so much love. We are grateful to the staff and management at Perry's for not only providing these memories for us but for putting it together so last minute and being beyond incredibly patient with all of our needs as Emmie continued to decline even within just the small amount of time that we were there.
