She deserves better. It's disgusting how they treated her.

They couldn't cope with generational talent displayed by a Black woman. Similar energy exhibited when Black competitors excel in other YT dominated sports

You said nothing but the truth.

PRESSURE makes DIAMONDS! She made history regardless - doing moves no one to this day can repeat and THAT is what should be celebrated and highlighted. She was not a victim - she was a CHAMPION!

She was certainly a champion! 🙌🏾

WORD!

I remember seeing her on tv when I was little - I was so upset they didn’t give her gold 😭 she’s a QUEEN

Yes, she is.

She's the goat

Yes, she's a champion.

Those racist never like Black girl doing big things

That’s the fact.

Black pride!

She remains in our hearts.

She will always have this Black American utmost respect. She did what I would’ve done if I had that much top talent. Surja Bonaly’s strong pride came through, and more powerful than any piece of metal that resulted in meaning nothing at the end of the day.

Reminds me of what they've done to Simone Biles. Everytime Black women elevate a sport, here come the snowflakes trying to tell her the moves are too hard for others to replicate. Okay? Sounds like a skills issue.

She really wasn't talented and if you watch she made several mistakes

The others didn’t do anything close to half of what she did.

She shouldn't have tried to appropriate our culture.

She tried and still beat you all; that's why you created a rule to stop her dominance.

shes incredible

Yes, she is.

Nah she had some flaws - still very good tho

She had some flaws but was far better than her opponents.

This is so sad

@StuckOnYoung Imagine you being treated horribly because you’re better than YT people. Wait, this is America.

While I agree she wasn’t judged fairly, there’s some misinformation going around. The backflip was made illegal in competitive figure skating well before Bonaly competed. It happened in the 70s. And she competed in the 90s.

The evidence has been immortalized. Everything we do shatter glass ceilings. Simone Bile, Zeb Powell, Venus and Serena, just to name a few.

Blatant racism

she may not have got her medal but her impact captured hearts all over the world, mad respect

Elle a tout gagné. C'est une vaillante. ✨👌🏾

Amerikkka

Medals are nice. But she’ll be remembered far longer than her competitors—for her creativity, independence and unique talent! And those cra cray back flips 😳 (Would love to see Surya Bonali in conversation with Venus Williams…)

To add, she received great recognition. 9 time French champion, 5 time European champion, 3 time silver medalist world championships and a U.S. citizen in 2004. Toured with Champions on Ice from 1993 to 2007. A crowd favorite universally.

They thought that they could treat her any kind of way. A damned shame.

I grew up watching her skate. I never understood why they disliked her so much! Once I got older, it became evident is was race related! She was so damn talented and skated circles around her Caucasian counterparts!

I thought landing on one foot wasn’t banned which is why she did it? Only landing on 2 feet was banned because they thought 1 foot was impossible. She didn’t break any rules, she was a genius and skated in the loophole.

Typical ungrateful African when they don’t get their way ! I swear blacks are like spoiled children

Rather than appreciate black excellence racist white people rather downgrade it and criticize

She’s beyond talented. Those haters wish they had an ounce of her skills. Banned because no other person can ever be at her level. Not only does she deserve the gold medal but diamonds too.

When these organizations exhibit this type of racism it only makes a mockery of those very organizations. They did similar to Michelle Kwan when she out performed her competition. Said she was too young but when Tara Lipinski did it at 15, no one said anything about her youth.

I watched this at that time. Although impressive, her programs didn't have much choreography-wise. Compared to other skaters she lacked finesse. I loved her but without the elements between the jumps her programs were empty. It had nothing to do with race.

I don't know...

She got her acceptance in the end

She did a banned move considered dangerous. I commend her for being able to pull it off, but she shouldn't have broken the rules just to prove she could do it. It wasn't race related...

she touched the ice during her triple and landed awkwardly during another triple combo, costing her points, it had NOTHING to do with race and everything to do with technique, earning a silver for her & her country, meaning second best in the WORLD, was tarnished by her behavior

Lies. No one was surprised she didn’t place first. She refused to stand at the podium because she’s a sore loser and has no impulse control. People are tired of this bs black we are victims crying.

It says she did an illegal move so maybe that’s why her score was lower than expected
