The last time I found myself in a similar situation, I channeled all of my anger into the last application I was working on. Honestly, that was the most effort I have ever put into any application. I felt both confident and nervous because of the amount of work I invested. In the end, I got into the program. So, I encourage you to stay optimistic and put extra effort into your current applications. I'm rooting for you! 💪🏽

As one who got accepted to 2 Russell schools and an Ivy League, Harvard , I’d advise her to reapply & also apply to other top schools that are non-ivy league. This year, MIT EECS PhD program alone received 4154 applications (a single department) for less than 20 available seats in the program. The competition can be crazily overwhelming & many excellent and well qualified applicants don’t often make the cut. The advice I give is to include safety net schools in the application especially if you’re seeking full funding.

This is just the beginning of success. I remember around 2019 when I applied for a PhD program in Civil & Environmental Engineering while still in my third year in my bachelor's. I didn't know what I was thinking. My professors whom I requested letters of recommendation from wondered what was wrong with me. I finally got into my dream program in the US. And I can only tell you to keep going. You'll remember this day.

You were not rejected because your application wasn't strong. You were rejected because MIT knows you may not get a VISA to make it in for Fall 2026 session due to the temporary visa ban. Why give you funding when you wouldn't show up due to no fault of yours? Keep applying and pushing for Tinubu to do that right thing.

Idk if this might help but when I watched your video, the part about seeking clinical experience through health programs stood out. That sounds great, but in my experience with getting into top-ranked universities, maybe it should framed and “embodied” bit differently. This is just my own thinking, so I could be wrong 🙏🏾. I suspect a stronger framing would be starting from a clear gap that’s been identified through doing real work in the field. Because by showing what you’ve already been working on, you naturally experience the limitations or gaps you’ve encountered, and that’s where the value exchange becomes clear, “Why”. Also, less about what you want to experience but rather what people/communities will benefit from you achieving the “why” you want to do in that top institution, this part should SLAP! I think your interest area is awesome and MIT rejection is not the end. All the best with the other applications🤞🏾

While it is good to be ambitious, let me use that word, it is good to vary ones applications, that means a combination of Ivy league and other schools. At the end, you just need one "Yes" from a good school, not necessarily name. Best wishes.

I have a folder on my laptop titled ‘PhD rejection letters.’ It’s really hard reading those rejection letters, but I keep them anyway to be reminded of how far I have come. Keep going, scholar. I’m def. Sure you’d get a fully funded scholarship soon. Peace out. ❤️
