I’m at this point , I’ve never felt so down before , things are not just working out

My son has been uniquely talented in drawing since he was 2 years old. By 3 he was drawing massive murals with sidewalk chalk that neighbors would gather around. He is now a teenager and his talent is extra. When he was young, he would draw daily. And I noticed a pattern. His work was typically excellent. Then for a short season I would walk by him while he was drawing and his work was objectively worse. Things he could draw impressively before, were now only slightly above average. (My value of him has nothing to do with his artistic skill. If you ever meet him, you'll immediately understand. He's great.) He was young, so I would obviously not volunteer this observation to him unasked. But as I was considering whether or not to invest in this skill, I gave more thought to these recessions than I otherwise would have. I'd start to wonder if maybe his earlier pieces were just lucky. Or if my parental glasses had previously clouded my objectivity. But after a short stint of regression, something fascinating would happen: completely out of the blue he would quickly produce something jaw-droppping—the best piece he'd ever done. And every piece from that point forward was on this level. This was how he progressed. Every time. Once he'd been through a week of his work being legitimately worse. He brought his pieces to me frustrated. I didn't gaslight him or try to convince him otherwise. I just told him the pattern I'd observed in him over the years. He didn't believe me. A few days later...he did. It is so consistent that now as a teenager he gets excited anytime he spots a regression. He knows it's coming. It does. Like clockwork. Everytime. We don't know if this is an artist thing, or just him. (Any artists out there??) But it seems relevant to a lot of different aspects of human growth. And a tangible example of your post — so thought I'd share.

That's why you build your character first instead of the chase for the next goldrush, cause man, you haven't gone to the shovel shop yet! you gonna pick up rocks by the hands.. good luck for that!
