Not only was the mom out of line, and appeared to be bat shit crazy - he failed to stand for his wife. Constantly trying to stop her from making her point. And for not checking his mom. This only goes on cause he allows it to.

The wife should have been calm and not further ruin her day by creating a scene right in the presence of people. This is something she could have handled when everyone was out of the house. Emotional intelligence was low here both for the mum and the wife.
