This woman got an alert on her home camera that someone was trying to break in. When she speaks to him and tells him she can see him, he waves. 😂 Then she tells him to leave and that she has already called the cops. He takes off and hops the wall and is gone. Some people questioned why she would warn him that she had him on camera and told him she had notified the police. Others said he may have been able to take some stuff before the cops arrived. I would have done what she did. Why go through the hassle of repairing what he was going to break to get in, filing an insurance claim and him possibly taking something that was of value to you? What would you have done? Would you have just watched him and not said a thing hoping the cops arrived soon or would you have done what she did and told him to get lost?

This is why I felt so out of it. 10 years today. I take solace in the fact that my mother loved us well and did her best for us. She was a fighter, protector and provider. She endured harassment by the SAP in the Apartheid era to keep us safe. She was the keeper of secrets, my secrets in particular. She loved all of us equally and never spoke a bad word about one of my siblings to me. She endured the loss of a child with dignity and later in life would be the matriarch of the family. Keeping us together when it seems we were drifting apart. Whoever came to visit, never left empty handed. I remember Geraldine and Jasper , adopted kids that she fed and nurtured through their formative years. She was there at my lowest points in life and never failed to support me.. She could cook up a storm in the kitchen and sew dresses for us and if Matthew Duiker would allow it she would make him an underpants. The death of my brother almost destroyed her, but again she rose from the ashes to keep the home fires burning during the most terrible times her life. She loved all her grand kids equally and often talked of Cheyenne and Edwynne and just wished she could see them. Go in peace my sweet mother. Till we meet again. Hamba Kahle. lala uxolo. This is what love and compassion look like. My senior beagle was so sick before I went away. Inflamed GI, gall bladder sludge, Lyme disease. I broke down crying in my vet’s office. I couldn’t board him knowing he’d end up in the ER or worse. She told me she would board him and put him on meds. Her amazing team took care of him and she personally took the holiday weekend shift. This was the result! I’m so grateful.

On Sunday we laid to rest my mother in law after losing her to cancer. I first met her when I was 22 and she treated me like a son ever since. After being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, she always remembered who I was because she appreciated our banjo sessions. She was a country girl who somehow got hired by the CIA while still a teenager in the mid 50s, married an analyst there, and worked as a family team on the Cuban Missile Crisis, also serving overseas during Vietnam, raising 6 successful children and 13 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She was married 62 years. She never had anything negative to say about anyone. She was always smiling. She never lost her temper. She was unconditionally trustworthy and completely devoted to her country, her family, and her God. I will miss her.
