“First rejection in 4 years.” How many people has she been with in that time? I respect her for informing a potential partner about her herpes, but awareness isn’t the only conversation that should be had. I know it only takes one time to contract an STD, but this is why body count matters. It’s a topic that shouldn’t just be discussed in public forums for clicks and likes, but in private with your partner. I had a similar experience with a woman I vibed with. Before we got to sex, I had to discuss sexual experiences. She avoided the conversation or went silent when it came up. She finally told me she had herpes and had sex with multiple partners, some at the same time with both genders. I respected her for telling me, but I couldn’t pursue a sexual relationship with her. I couldn’t risk it, and her partners and experiences were intimidating for someone like me who doesn’t engage in hook-up culture or has sex unless in a committed relationship. I remember her telling me, “But it’s only an STD if you can see it, right? That’s all that matters.” I got love for her, but that comment tripped me out. I couldn’t even be her friend after she said that. That’s a very irresponsible and reckless thing to say.
