This is the classic Asian immigrant mentality. My mom still insists I work extremely hard, and I’m lazy cuz I don’t have a second and third job.

He's right. Hard work is for the sake of getting what you want so you can enjoy it. But if you work hard just for the sake of working hard and don't enjoy it, what was the point of all that hard work?

My mother used to be like that then had a mental breakdown overworked and under appreciated we had a deep talk when she realised she'd missed so much of myself and my sisters childhood due to working all the time. She now does foster care for kids
