Tonderai Chidawa, President of the Zimbabwe Youth Action Platform, an affiliate of Zanu PF and its youth League, says the 2030 agenda to extend President Emmerson Mnangagwa's rule beyond his 2028 second term constitutional limit is on and the window for different views on it has now closed. This comes ahead of the ruling party's annual conference in Mutare from 13-18 October, which aims to pass a resolution supporting its Bulawayo decision last year to extend Mnangagwa’s rule to 2030. But Mnangagwa indicated during a Zanu PF Central Committee meeting in Harare on Thursday that the elections are going ahead as scheduled in 2028, rejecting the 2030 agenda. He has publicly said he will step down when his term ends in 2028 because he is a "constitutionalist". However, Mnangagwa has been indicating right and turning left on this issue, with his staunch allies vigorously pushing for the 2030 agenda at his behest.
