Shell's biofuels flagship just hit reality. In Rotterdam, Shell was building what was meant to be Europe's largest biofuel plant at a cost of €1.2 billion. The annual output target was 820,000 tons of so-called "sustainable" aviation fuel and "renewable" diesel. The feedstock was supposed to be used frying... show more

It would be interesting for someone to calculate how much "carbon" was released in the creation of all the failed "green" energy plants such as this one, and Ivanpah, and others around the world.

The green new deal is a globalist myth

The binding constraint was feedstock. Europe's used cooking oil supply is a fraction of 820,000 t/a, and importing palm oil byproducts defeats the label. Which ReFuelEU sub-mandate assumed this arithmetic worked?

@JoostJansen6

They should build another hydrocracker that can produce close to 60% weight on feed as jet fuel, like the one in Singapore.

Not surprised. Biofuels always felt like a detour dressed up as a destination. Meanwhile wind and solar keep quietly getting on with it #CleanEnergy #Renewables

Data center anyone?

Lawsuit avoidance via performance is expensive.

Wow a staggering miss on the market.....

@AlboMP hi mate just letting you know the black stuff in the ground we still need it now and moving forward

Imagine how many chips we would have to eat to feed that refinery!!

Bio fuels are not a fairytale. Renewables are, when we consider materials and whole life expectancy? What isn't a fairytale are dedicated SMRs that could pump out biofuels 24/7 365 for 60 years. Add fusion power that's already proven for the future. We don't need renewables.

That supply stock is laughable.

What a relief!
