The government can try building a cheaper version of the bridge. It doesn't have to include all these expensive features. With the billions we generate in IGR, we can comfortably construct or comprehensively rehabilitate one major state road every month. I didn't say every year,I said every month. In eight years, that would amount to hundreds of kms of major roads across the state, while the government could still build flyovers, bridges, and interchanges. That is why I keep saying we are being deliberately denied a good road network. This is not a federal problem; it is a Lagos State problem. Go and verify my statement. Even some of the poorest states in Nigeria, with IGRs of just ₦2–₦3 billion, are constructing quality roads. Some Lagosians are richer than some states, yet Lagos is the one without a proper road network. The painful part is that fixing roads is the most basic responsibility of any government. Even a decent guy with no connections, no big portfolio, no influence, and no experience attracting investments could still overhaul the road network of Lagos. He may not build rail lines, seaports, or free trade zones, but he can at least give residents good roads. Look at Lagos today. The skyscrapers, high-rise buildings, and beautiful developments are already there. What is missing is a road network that matches the city. Good roads would completely transform the appearance of Lagos and bring out its beauty. This is not a long-standing Lagos problem. It is a problem of this particular administration. For reasons I still cannot understand, they have deliberately allowed the roads to deteriorate. Instead of comprehensive reconstruction, all we see is patching. We can afford better. Abati is trending because Arise TV’s Reuben Abati has dared Akpabio to impeach Tinubu for disrespecting the constitution. Abati stated that, Tinubu solely decided to make himself the Dictator of Rivers State, suspending the governor, the deputy and the legislative. Which is totally illegal in the 99 constitution. The president cannot remove an elected official, Obasanjo doing it was illegal. Also, the conditions for a State of emergency to be declared, were not fully met. Since it was an “emergency”, when the President declared SOE, to suspend the officials, he should have recommended it to the Senate who should have approved it almost instantly, since it was an “Emergency”. But, the Senate did not approve the SOE. Which they have two days, and 10 days to do. Essentially invalidating every sense of “Emergency” in the State. Again, validating that there was no cause to suspend the Governor, Deputy or Legislative. If the senate doesn’t approve the SOE in 9 days, the SOE won’t stand. Today, NASS didn’t talk about the SOE, they moved it to tomorrow, Thursday. Albeit, President Tinubu has sworn in Navy Chief, Admiral Ibokette Ibas, as the administrator for Rivers State. And according to reports, Rivers FAAC allocations will be released to him. This was blocked by Supreme Court, pending Fubara’s re-presentation of the budget. Pres. Today, we inspected ongoing Lagos Island Regeneration and Beautification projects, covering Oja Oba Underbridge, Idumota Underbridge, Aroloya Street, Adeniji Adele corridor, and key drainage collectors including Alfred Rewane, Bourdillon, MacPherson and Five Cowries Creek in Ikoyi. Our Lagos Island regeneration project will add real value to the city. It is designed to improve drainage capacity, reduce flood risks and improve the quality of life for residents. Since work commenced, the environmental condition has improved significantly. Many residents can now move around without the flooding that once defined the area. At Oja Oba Underbridge, we formalised a beautification proposal under a PPP CSR arrangement. Two to three parties have shown interest. They presented their designs and we are ensuring they align with approved state standards. We regularly meet with proponents to define boundaries, review drawings and make necessary adjustments. One of the proponents has also taken interest in Idumota Underbridge, which was cleared last year to protect public infrastructure. The plan includes sporting facilities such as a table tennis court, public toilets and green areas. We have asked for the final drawings for approval and continuous engagement with the Local Government Chairman. Obalende Underbridge has been cleared and taken over. At Ijora, a football pitch is being developed. Oja Oba and Idumota will also be transformed. We are making steady progress. There is a slight delay around Ojo Giwa Street where contractors had to dam certain sections to address adjoining areas. They are now filling with precast materials and adjusting the design because the road is narrow, ensuring it meets regeneration standards. These projects will be completed in phases. Some will be delivered within six months, others within 12 to 14 months. The important thing is that residents are already seeing results. I appeal for patience. There will be temporary inconvenience, but the outcome will justify the effort. We did not set out to inconvenience anyone, but progress requires sacrifice. On the issue of Monthly Environmental Sanitation, a definite position will be taken by the state government and announce by Mr Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in a few weeks. However, residents should not wait for a declaration before cleaning their surroundings. Cleanliness must be a daily culture. Lagos does not have a waste problem. We have a discipline problem. Some markets along expressways have been caught dumping waste illegally despite having bins provided. Traders have been seen disposing waste on road medians. Along Badagry Expressway, LAWMA officials have worked tirelessly to clear waste that blocked rail tracks. Going forward, we will enforce environmental laws firmly. Some markets along expressways have been caught dumping waste illegally despite having bins provided. Traders have been seen disposing waste on road medians. Along Badagry Expressway, LAWMA officials have worked tirelessly to clear waste that blocked rail tracks. Going forward, we will enforce environmental laws firmly. On New Year’s Day, we captured this footage of the Blackstone Pack, a large, predominantly Canadian Pack, trespassing deep into the Listening Point Pack territory on the Kabetogama Peninsula. The Blackstone Pack was a large pack at the start of early winter as we had several observations of 9 wolves together. By mid-to-late winter, though, the pack seemed to have dwindled to 5-7 members. However, we do not have great data on the changes to this pack's size because the pack’s territory is predominantly in Canada. We suspect their territory is on the north shore of Namakan Lake, directly to the east of the Kabetogama Peninsula in Voyageurs National Park. The territory likely includes Blackstone Island in Namakan Lake, hence the name “Blackstone Pack”. That said, we think their territory likely includes the northeastern tip of the Kabetogama Peninsula; specifically, the area in and around Kettle Falls, meaning the pack does occupy a small sliver of our study area. The reason we have any data on this pack is because they made periodic excursions into our study area this past fall and winter, and were captured on several cameras. In total, we documented 7 such excursions with some of these excursions lasting several days. And of course, they could have made other excursions not captured on camera. On one excursion, the Blackstone Pack crossed through 3 pack territories—Listening Point, Mithrandir, and Cranberry Bay—before returning to their territory. Of course, all of this highlights why having many trail cameras is extremely helpful for understanding these dynamics. Without a lot of cameras and a lot of footage of the various packs in our area, we would have struggled to piece this all together. I.e., we wouldn’t know who the “resident” wolves in an area are, and who the “intruding” wolves are. But with enough observations from trail cameras, we can tell, based on physical appearances, which wolves belong to which packs, and that helps us make sense of the data we collect.

Within 9 months of planning. Without a single governor, minister, or parliamentarian. Just a bunch of crazy Obidients pulled this off. Now imagine what the Coalition is capable of now that he is more popular & is shaking everywhere with his compassion & integrity! The PDP would have been the occupants of Aso Rock today. His remarks were historical references to events during the Jonathan administration and were intended as a discourse on Nigeria’s constitutional evolution. They served to highlight how complex federal-state tensions have been managed through legal mechanisms and the country’s progress in that regard. For the avoidance of doubt, President Tinubu did not remove Governor Fubara from office. The constitutional measure implemented was a suspension, not an outright removal. This action, along with the declaration of a state of emergency, was taken in response to the grave political crisis in Rivers State at the time. The situation was unprecedented, with the State House of Assembly complex under demolition and the Governor facing a looming threat of impeachment by aggrieved members of the legislature. No objective observer can deny that this decisive intervention by the President brought stability and calm to Rivers State. This situation is not comparable to that of the North East under the Jonathan administration, where violent non-state actors were directly challenging the sovereignty of the Nigerian state, demanding unified action by both federal and state authorities to confront terrorism. In contrast, President Tinubu acted strictly within constitutional limits and in consultation with relevant stakeholders to preserve democratic institutions and restore order in Rivers State. Nigeria’s laws provide a clear framework for addressing such matters. Section 305(3)(c) of the Constitution authorises extraordinary measures when there is “a breakdown of public order and public safety in the federation or any part thereof to such extent as to require extraordinary measures to restore peace and security.” The situation in Rivers State clearly met this constitutional threshold, with persistent politically motivated violence, systematic attacks on federal institutions, and near-complete paralysis of governance—conditions intolerable in any democratic society. According to credible security reports, these acts even escalated into attacks on national assets. President Tinubu acted with constitutional fidelity. His proclamation invoking Section 305(2) was ratified by an overwhelming bipartisan majority in the National Assembly, as required by Section 305(3). Clearly, without mincing words, the action of President Tinubu in suspending Mr Fubara and others from exercising the functions of office averted the Governor’s outright removal. To conflate suspension with removal is misleading. Therefore, interpreting Senator Shettima’s remarks as commentary on current events is either a wilful misrepresentation or a deliberate neglect of constitutional context. The Vice President, speaking extemporaneously, focused on the importance of public officials documenting their stewardship and on the enduring principle of accountability in public service. His historical references were made to illustrate the principled stands taken by past public servants, as well as his personal ties to Mohammed Bello Adoke and former Speaker Aminu Waziri Tambuwal. Thank you, Dr. Reuben Abati, for mentioning this village boy and for referencing my Harvard Business Review work on the Umunneoma Economics of the Igbo Apprenticeship System. Let me also use this moment to explain this economic framework so that as people study Adam Smith’s classical economics, Confucian economic philosophy in China, and other schools of thought, they can also add Umunneoma Economics, literally, the economics of good brethren, to their intellectual toolkit. In a seminal Harvard Business Review work, I explained this business philosophy which is rooted in the traditional African (specifically Igbo) concept of shared prosperity captured by the maxim "onye aghana nwanne ya" (do not leave your brethren behind). Here, trust, mentorship, and shared destiny become factors of production! Key tenets on click. ----On Literacy Rates--- Dr. Abati, let me address the point on literacy rates. The facts are these: using official government data, South-East Nigeria has consistently done well in literacy rates. Abia, Imo, and Anambra have for years recorded literacy levels of above 90%. Enugu is in the high 80s, while Ebonyi is slightly below 80%. These are among the strongest literacy outcomes in Nigeria by geopolitical zone, and they would not have been possible if boys are not enrolled in schools! Therefore, the thesis that Umunneoma Economics has negatively affected male-child enrollment is not supported by data (click). The evidence points in the opposite direction. That said, I concede one historical nuance. In the 1970s and 1980s, male-child enrollment in parts of the South-East was indeed lower than female enrollment in some states. But that was not because education was devalued. It was because The Greatest Generation, Igbo men and women who engineered the rebuilding after the Biafra War, made a strategic choice. They challenged young males to move into enterprise, using the apprenticeship system as a vehicle to escape the miry clay in the Igbo Nation, and to prevent a vicious cycle of poverty. It was a deliberate economic reconstruction strategy. I have spoken with some of these men, and many confirmed that the reconstruction was "war" and the boys were tasked to fight it through the markets. By the late 1980s, that phase had largely run its course. And from the early 1990s, as Igbos began integrating fully into Nigeria’s capital formation system (visible via investments and properties across Lagos, Abuja, and beyond), male literacy rebounded strongly. Since then, literacy rates in the South-East, including for males, have remained among the highest in the country. In nearly all government data, a Southeast state is always ranked #1 on literacy rate; you cannot achieve that if boys are not in school

The Blackwater fish kill - failures in investigating and protecting an EU Special Area of Conservation. We need to move beyond “fisheries” on our Natura 2000 rivers. This video shows the Blackwater River (Cork/Waterford) Special Area of Conservation (SAC) near Mallow, Co. Cork and features critically endangered Freshwater Pearl Mussels (Margaritifera margaritifera). I took these images during a survey I completed in August 2022 on the river. A major fish kill occurred in this stretch of river earlier this month. It is one of the largest fish kills ever recorded in Ireland, with media reports estimating that over 30 km of river were affected. Thousands of fish were killed, and other wildlife was also impacted. Yet to date no cause of the fish kill has been identified. All of the areas affected were within the SAC designated area. The Blackwater River (Cork/Waterford) SAC is designated for a range of aquatic species including Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar), Freshwater Pearl Mussel, White-clawed Crayfish (Austropotamobius pallipes), Sea Lamprey (Petromyzon marinus), Brook Lamprey (Lampetra planeri), River Lamprey (Lampetra fluviatilis), and Twaite Shad (Alosa fallax). It is also designated for Otter (Lutra lutra), and the river corridor supports a range of other protected species including birds such as Kingfisher (Alcedo atthis). Despite this, public reporting and official responses have focused almost exclusively on Brown Trout (Salmo trutta), a species that is not a qualifying interest of the SAC. The investigation was led by Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI), but having a fisheries agency lead an investigation of a pollution event on a Natura 2000 river is itself part of the problem. The Blackwater is not only a fishery, but also a designated European site. For example, there are no “fisheries” for Freshwater Pearl Mussels, crayfish or lampreys in Ireland. International best practice sets out clearly how fish kills should be investigated. The first 24 hours are critical. Water samples must be collected above, within and below the affected reach, as well as from tributaries, with controls from unaffected areas. Dead and dying fish and invertebrates should be collected immediately for pathology and toxicology. Mortality must be quantified using standardised transects and statistical sampling, not casual tallies. On the Blackwater much of this did not happen. The 24-hour window for water sampling was lost, early speculation about natural causes was made without evidence, and mortality estimates were not carried out to scientific standards. There has been no reported assessment of impacts on Freshwater Pearl Mussels, lampreys or crayfish. There were reports of large numbers of “eels” being killed, and lampreys are often erroneously referred to as eels. Yet there does not seem to have been any formal investigation into how other non-fisheries species were affected. This failure raises a prima facie breach of Article 6(2) of the EU Habitats Directive, which requires Member States to avoid the deterioration of natural habitats and the disturbance of species for which SACs are designated. A pollution event of this magnitude, coupled with the absence of a scientifically robust investigation, amounts to both ecological harm and a failure of governance. An urgent independent review is now required into how fish kills are investigated in Ireland and how our Natura rivers are managed. Rivers such as the Blackwater cannot be treated as fisheries alone. They are legally protected ecosystems of European importance, and the State is obliged to manage and protect them as such.

In January 2025, I deployed my Ray-Ban Meta AI glasses to combat a notorious police extortion team stationed on the Murtala Mohammed International Airport road in Lagos. Instead of rounding up the officers and punishing them, the illegal IGP Kayode Egbetokun ordered my arrest. I was subsequently charged before a Federal High Court, with the absurd claim that by filming these corrupt police officers, I had engaged in cybercrime; they even presented their statements in court as part of evidence to pursue a criminal trial that has so far stalled. The presiding judge, Justice M.S. Liman of the Federal High Court in Abuja, granted me bail only after seizing my international passport. Later, during the historic #PoliceProtest at the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters, the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, deployed his cameraman, Victor Chiemerie Aku, to forcibly snatch my Ray-Ban AI glasses. The entire incident was captured on video. Following this theft, I immediately lodged a criminal complaint at the Nigeria Police Force office in Asokoro. To this day, nothing has been done. Instead, the same stolen glasses were eventually (quietly) returned to me by DCP Akin Fakorede of the IGP Monitoring Unit, but only after they realized they could not access the content stored on the device. How then can such a police force, drowning in corruption and impunity, be trusted when it issues “official statements” condemning junior officers on the streets of Lagos for carrying out extortion at checkpoints that are, in fact, sanctioned by their senior commanders? This episode lays bare the power of technology and it tells why Nigerian rulers hate technological advancement of any kind; however, these digital efforts is part of a digital revolutionary effort that will ultimately overthrow Nigeria’s corrupt, insensitive, and useless status quo. I urge every citizen to protect themselves by arming up with body cams, AI glasses, dashboard cameras, and other digital tools as well as devices that can expose brutality, prevent cover-ups, and ultimately save lives.
