She’s cooking! I want her to take this panopticon and have a discussion about the way offices and cubicles are set up and how with the rise of wfh that feeling of hyper surveillance is now in our homes.

toy story warped my brain as a kid so i thought my toys were watching me until i was 11 or 12. don’t even get me started on the truman show lol. i’m fine now! enviably comfortable in my own skin (or so i’m told) cause i’ve grown up thinking someone is always watching regardless.

My husband is Italian-American and the concept of this little rat has always offended him on a fundamental level.

And then Christmas ends and the kids go right back to not giving a fuck 😂

Elf on the shelf wasnt a thing in my household,but I thought its just a elf u put in different fun places and kids try and find it each day leading up to Christmas.

We didn't even go to surveillance when we did else on the shelf last year. The two elves did fun things overnight and the boys got to look around the next day. But no mention of the elves watching or reporting anything to Santa

I knew I didn't like that mf for a reason. they've always been super unsettling to me, uncanny valley style.

She taught me something here. 😅

the library i work at is in a shopping complex. in past years they’ve done an optional “find the elf” activity/promo with tenants. and asked us if we want to join.

And this is why I'll never put one in my house. My kids are free to be vulnerable and themselves (within reason of course) and shouldn't have to feel like they're performing and being watched in their place of comfort.

Simpsons did it. Maggie HATED her elf.
