I have 4 kids and 3 daughters. They were raised without television, read many many books, no social media, many family trips, involved in many extra-curriculars, and they all hit the gym with dad often. Now 3 of them teenagers strong in faith and oldest daughter just nailed over 1400 on her PSAT. They are considered the odd ones, but I’ve always told them the odd ones change the world. The other teenage daughter just turned 14 and she drew this a month ago for 8th grade art class. Social media and poor parenting is robbing kids of so much.

I grew up in a 2 parent home in South Central LA, my parents are STILL married. My pops was the leader in the home and my mom the nurturer. There was a balance of love & discipline. My environment was ROUGH, but my pops taught me “this world don’t owe u shit, whatever u want, u gotta get it yourself”.. I’m the only child, my homies in the hood was my siblings, and most of them didn’t have fathers in the home.. a lot relied on the “streets” to raise them. My pops kept me out of a lot of trouble, he was strict about the kinda homies I had, the places I would kickback at, what music I played, the books I read..etc etc.. HE WAS MOLDING me into a MAN of substance and value. And today, at the age of 41, married for 11 years, a father to a 7 yr old daughter and a son on the way, a successful businessman w/ 45 employees, a beautiful life, I can sit here today and say I am who I am because of God and the UPBRINGING FROM MY CHILDHOOD!! Kids must be taught the very most important essentials in life in order to mentally mature. Otherwise, yes, you’ll have generations of imbeciles ruining this world.

NO. She is missing the real issue. Moms are blocking the Dads from stepping up. The proper dad roll is only possible if there is no mom or the mom is supportive No matter how good the dad is, if the mom plays the best friend roll and aligns against the dad, it is over.

For most dads stepping up to fill that role would end in divorce. Then he would hardly be aloud to see her. Until the default decision for custody in a divorce is 50/50 the dads have no leg to stand on and moms get paid to leave. If either parent is proven unfit then the other needs child support. Otherwise both parents should have shared custody. Moms need to want their husbands to be strong male role models and not scream at them for being it. Everyone needs to recognize that the role of a parent is not to be a friend. Your job is to make them a good adult.

I was preggo and 17 and none of this was true for me and it was before social media. I had a mom and dad, big rules, got good grades, early curfew. How about just teach about birth control and make it readily available…

Awesome summary. Some in comments said she was blaming single moms. She was not. She actually said “Dads, step up”. It applies to dads who are still married to the mom and divorced. It’s a team sport, mom and dad both have equally important but slightly different roles.

I've seen girls in college from strict 2 parent households going crazy turning into the biggest sluts as soon as they got on campus. I've also seen girls from rough backgrounds actually try to be the complete opposite of what they saw growing up in their community. No way to tell
